Long ago, in the war torn world of Magus-contra, the magicless humans fought against the wizards who protected the Heart. The Heart, an object that was the origin of all magic, was the only thing that could give an ordinary creature unlimited power. In the last battle, most of the wizards had been overwhelmed and defeated by the humans, and had reached the Cave of the Heart. A weak boy-wizard and his steed, Bravus, were all that stood between the Heart and the King of the humans. In a last attempt to save the Heart, the boy imbued his horse with the Heart and told him to run.
Now equipped with magic and intelligence, Bravus ran to the Far Hills to the East, where he was reunited with his kin. He blessed them all with magic as well, and they founded a tribe deep in the mountains, where know would find them. The magic was passed on through the generations, each having the ability to preform spells and manipulate objects.
Hundreds of years later, they still thrive, known as the Magus. The horse's built themselves intricate hollows and farms, creating beautiful pieces of art and literature, and shedding the primal way of horses before them. They could take time to read, instead of graze. Build magical armor, instead of wander.
They thought they were perfectly safe, hidden away in a deep valley covered by a canopy of oaks. But little did they know, the humans were still thirsty for war and magic.

Magical abilities of ALL the Magus:
- Telepathy. All Magus are able to speak to any species through telepathy. While they can always "speak" to any Magus between what would be hearing distance normally, they can't hear the thoughts of other creatures unless it willingly Links, then and only then can a Magus hear what the creature wishes to say to them. No Magus can read all thoughts of any creature, including Magus. They can only hear thoughts, know as Whispers, that the other creature deliberately wants them to hear.

- Telekinesis. All Magus are able to move objects using their mind, to a certain degree. Most Magus have weak telekinetic abilities, and cannot move objects well unless they have a Magus spell on it. All Magus items, like scrolls and armor, have spells that enable all Magus to move them with ease.

- Light magic. All Magus are able to create light in the shape of a sphere, known simply as a Orb. They are commonly used as lamps and can move, following it's Magus. They can also perform basic lightmagic spells and defense spells. They can be taught offense spells as well.

Magical Gifts specific to certain Magus:
- Agrokinesis (agro for short). Agro magic is common in the Magus villages. Although it's typically used to grow food faster, when a Magus is gifted in agro, they can use it to build. Since all structures are made of living plants, it's a agro's job to grow these homes and gardens.

- Boldmagic. Boldmagic is a slightly rarer gift. It is used in combat by warriors to use powerful spells such as freezing spells, pain spells, resistance spells, and the like. The limits of Boldmagic depend on the skill of the Magus.

- Pyrokinesis (known as pyro). Pyro is a slightly rarer gift that enables a Magus to control fire and magma. Pyros aren't very popular among Maguses because the ability is so destructive. Pyros generally find work as blacksmiths, who forge magic armor and jewelry.

Magus Armor:
While most Magus don't have armor, the warriors do. The magic armor is usually held in a necklace or headdress. When the warriors summons the armor, it folds out over them from the necklace. Some are enchanted with other spells, and most have a long blade on the helmet. The sword is used to cut and stab in battle, although most Magus opt to fight with spells instead.

Magus Jewelry and Hollows:
Every Magus has a unique piece of jewelry. The jewelry marks the Magus's gift.
A Agro wear a pearl or emerald and gold head chain or earring. A Bold wears a silver or jet neckchain or mane hangs. A Pyro wears ruby or gold hoofbands or tail hangs.
Additional jewelry is worn for rank or race, if the Magus is a unicorn or pegasus.

Magus homes, or hollows, are oval or round groves of trees, grown together to create walls and a leaf-canopy roof. Most Magus hollows are close by a starlilly patch. Starlillies are the powerful planet most Agros are in charge of growing. One starlilly is enough to fill a Maguses stomach for a whole day, although Magus can choose to graze or eat other confections.
The hollows are usually floored with soft grass and lit with floating Orbs.

Nox's armor clicked and clacked loudly as she wound her way through the the steep passage of mossy stone. Her glass eyes scanned the mountain as she walked, carefully placing her hooves as to not fall to her death. The sheer cliff was used by guards like herself for hundreds of generations, yet it grew more treacherous each year. The small path she walked, hugging the cliff wall tightly, was only a couple feet wide. Her fur scraped the rocks as she traveled, and her other side was open to a misty void.

"Glad the weather is good," She thought back to the other horses behind her.

They all wore basic leather armor. Nothing special. They were tired and afraid, Nox could tell. New recruits always were. The small Magus always started with excited eyes and swishing tails. Only a few would ever come back for more lessons. Behind them, in the rear, was her fellow experienced squadmate, Brianna.

"Be thankful it's dry about," Nox continued, "or you could easily fall and be killed."

The other seven horses grunted in acknowledgement, too tired to speak. She didn't blame them. The village below, concealed under a massive forest of oak trees, was only accessible by this mountain path. The ascent from the Magus citadel was exhausting and long. Without properly exercised limbs, the climb was usually too much. Nox personal thought that some magical team should make a new, larger path. The village was a sitting duck if the humans finally found the almost invisible path, as no horse could escape. Most thought she was silly. Surely if the humans would ever find the path, they would have already.

Another while passed before the group of cadets finally reached the top of the canyon. In front of them, a dark and thickly vegetated forest sat.

"Here we are, pretties." Nox said, turning towards the panting maguses behind her. "This is the wild. Nothing beyond this point we control. We are prey to everyone who may hate us. As you know, we have a duty. Scan the fifty plus miles around the canyon for trespassers. If they seem a threat... Kill them."

The ponies looked at each other and a few stomped their hoofs nervously.

"We will split into two groups. Three of you, come with me. The others will be overseen by Bri." The mare explained curtly.

Bri twitched an ear at me as three of the recruits joined her. "I'll take the western side."

Nox nodded in acknowledgement. "Alright,"

---

The trip took hours longer then a normal scouting trip with other experienced patrollers. This group was certainly one of the whiniest Nox had taught. They begged for breaks every mile or so, and paid no attention when Nox pointed out tracks or game signs. Things only got interesting when they found a group of elves hunting.

The humanlike creatures were familiar friends of the magus. They were the only humanoid species that knew where the Magus citadel was, and actively traded with them.

The group they ran into was about five strong, each equipped with bows and arrows. They were resting at the edge of the woods, but jumped up when they saw the Magus patrol coming towards them.

"What are you doing so close to the canyon?" Nox thought to them, pointedly. All elves had established Links with the Magus.

An elf stepped up, a look of amusement when he say the tired cadets behind her.

"We aren't here to stir up trouble, ma'am." The elf thought back. The other elves nodded in agreement. "In fact, we have good daynuts to trade if you brought anything good."

Nox snorted. "I brought some starlillies. How many for those nuts?"
Magus loved daynuts. They didn't grow in the wild, so they could only be bartered for from the elves. They had the effects of instant happiness and relaxation. Plus, they tasted delicious.
The starlillies we're of use to elves, because they could be used to enhance magical abilities.

"Hm, three." The head elf said.

"Done." Nox levitated the flowers out of a pack on her back, and dropped them into the elf's hands. He returned the gesture by loading a large bag of nuts onto her back.

"We have news, as well. We spotted humans not even fifty miles away. We drove them off, but they are becoming curious of what lies in this valley." The elf said, stowing away the flowers.

Nox narrowed her eyes. "Thank you for warning us, we will keep an eye out..."

She turned back towards the others, who looked at each other in excitement. Nox pinned her ears at them.

"Don't be so happy. This isn't good news, and you wouldn't stand a chance fighting them anyways. Hurry, we have to get back to the village and report the sighting." Nox snarled as she started cantering towards the path. The others grumbled and followed.

((I know its short, I'm sorry! Good night, i am logging off!))

Ivory was bustling about her section in the blacks-smith shop, there were new cadets for Bri and Nox. These cadets had already revived their armor but were waiting to revive their new jewelry to represent their role in the village.

Huffing slightly as she spread her wings she was preparing to fire and mold a new piece. She closed her eyes and focused drawing out the heat that 'lives' inside her, reopening her eyes she focused on the hot metal in front of her. She saw the metal start to heat, a orange glow around it.

Quickly she used her telekinesis to grab the bowl of hot metal and pour it into a mold. As she did she slowly closed her wings letting the hot air escape, as it was now safer for any others to walk into the shop area she was in. Letting the bowl down softly she turned around.

Walking out of the shop to the fresh air the young mare cooled off. The cadets left a couple hours ago, they should be back soon she reassured her self, she knew these trips to long. Ivory prayed hoping each of them would come back safely. Talking a deep breath she closed her eyes and relaxed, her partner should be back to the shop soon.

Seclusion was not intimidating as always. The fields posed a visual splendor against the soft light in the distance - the rising sun. The sky was painted in colors of reds and pinks, and golds and yellows.. Casting a brilliant shadow from the tall horse standing between the swaying stalks of crops. It was a shame the lone horse could not see the sights, their vision clouded with eternal darkness that even the light couldn't break through.

The equine turns tail and pads back to the run down ruins of an old farm they'd taken a liking to. They lived mostly far off from the herd, taking work when needed. Their hoof steps were silent and the white creature moved elegantly through the fields like a ghost. Their jewelry made not a jingle.

Their hooves clicked ever so softly against the wood as they led themself onto the balcony of the establishment, and its shadow loomed right over the ghastly horse below it. It was barely more than a few run down rooms and stables, however Sarnor had created it to be a suitable area for them to work on their Agrokinesis. Skeletons lay strewn over the ground, small flowers and other plants blooming from inside every crevice within the bones. It gave a chill and an even more decrepit look about the area, quite off shoot for the usual beauty a Magus like them should be residing in.

They welcomed the new day, embracing the new hours of loneliness they'd probably be going through like every other cycle. Unless any strangers happen to bother them by requesting help with crops and such.

Nox cantered into the village, breathless. She had come down the mountain pass far quicker then she should have. The cadets couldn't keep up. They were still on the pass as far as she knew. Oh, who cares - Brianna and her squad will catch up to them. Snivelling snails.

She slowed to a trot as she started down the pathway through the farmlands. Well lit hollows and trees lined the road, some with their inhabitants sleeping inside, others empty. She passed a few Magus heading to the field to work, and had to swivel around them as to not run into them.

"Out of my way, I have actual work to do." Nox hissed as a couple gave her off looks.

She finally entered the Main Hollow. The huge circle was the busy part of the village. The four main roads led to it, joining the huge circle road where hollows for blacksmiths, healers, schools, and houses lined. In the middle of a huge grove of trees, woven artfully to include doors and windows. Nox trotted inside, legs aching.

"Grendal, your Majestical Presence in needed." Nox swooned as she approach a small circle of black river rock in the center.

The circle was surrounded by gold-armor-clad horses, all standing still as a rock. The King's guards barely acknowledged Nox's arrival. Inside the black pebble circle, a crystal clear pool sat. Inside, were two horses, resting peacefully. The King, Grendal, looked up lazily. Noticing Nox's panting, she nudged his mate and stood up. The shimmering water transformed into glass immediately.

Nox twitched an ear in annoyance. King Grendal was a lazy and stupid soul. Nothing was admirable about them. The mare always wished his mate Lanna would challenge him for the Right of Dominance. She was strong, smart, and faithful to her tribe.

"What is it, prefect?" Grendal drawled, a slightly disgusted expression on his face as he noticed the sweat dribbling down her leg from under her armor. "It better be important. I was in the middle of a bath."

No swept her wings back into a more regular position, drawing on a blank expression, attempting not to pin her ears. "While I was taking the new guards out, we ran into a group of elves -"

"- What's the big deal about elves? You see them all the time." Grendal interrupted, rolling his eyes. Queen Lanna dipped her head at Nox sympathetically.

"I was was about to say, the elves told me they fought off a human patrol, not fifty miles from the canyon!" The mare snapped, curling a lip. "This is a serious matter, your Majesty."

"It's nothing. Just... Keep an eye out, or something. No big deal. Isn't that what your for, anyways?" He quipped, too stupid to be ruffled by Nox's lash out. "Leave me."

Nox fumed, turning tail and stomping out of the royal hollow. She trotted out just in time to see Brianna leading the six cadets behind her. They looked at Nox angrily.

"Why'd you leave us?" One asked accusingly.

Brianna rolled her eyes at the young stallion. "Oh, shut up. You aren't cut out for the job if you can't walk without one of us holding your damn tail." She looked at Nox curiously. "What happened?"

Nox tossed her head, magically willing her armor to shrink back into her necklace. "Humans. A elven patrol found them near our canyon. I had to warn the King. That fool wouldn't listen."

Brianna shook her head. "Oh, that is not good. We'll have to be careful. Can you take these five cadets to the Smith to pick up their armor? I have to take Viv to the healer. She said down the path and hurt herself."

Nox nodded, glancing at the small white mare who stood sadly, one leg in the air, covered in scrapes and blood. "Follow me." She was looking forward to pass these idiots on to their new squad leader.

They followed her down the road until they got to a small smithing shop. "Ivory?" She called inside.

The young mare heard the voice, talking a deep breath she in through the back entrance. Ivory had been out back picking flowers for some of the foals, as she planned on visiting them later.

As she walked in she saw Nox and Bri, they both looked very concerned, although some of the cadets looked kind of ticked off. Put down the flowers on an empty desk as she walked closer

"What happened?" Ivory said a concerned look appeared on her face.

She could tell that they were in a rush, so instead of standing as she waited for a response she went to the side of the shop, lifting two sets of armour off the table, they clicked and clattered as they lifted of the large table, and Ivory neared the others once again.

"Here." she said briskly, "Some of their jewelry is ready as well, but not all. It seems Nava had left for the day."

Once again she walked back towards the other sets of armour.

Nava lied in her dim hollow as if she hadn't a clue what the word "responsibility" meant. She was nice and cozy and warm and that's all that mattered to her right now. While normally she'd be doing her work as per usual, she was sure Ivory would be able to handle the smithing today. Everyone deserved a little "me" time to recharge, after all, and Ivory was very capable. Of course, she didn't like leaving all the work to her, but Nava was in need of some relaxation and she knew pushing herself would only make her feel worse.

She let out a sigh and closed her eyes. She'd get back to smithing later, maybe compensate for her time off by working extra hard.

"I'm afraid I can't tell you, yet." Nox said, handing out the armor and jewelry to the cadets. They don't deserve this stuff... What happened to trialing the recruits before accepting them?

The other weak maguses put on their armor, each quickly folding it into a earring, or necklace.

"You guys are suited up, now. You are free from my command. It's up to you to train yourselves, find a new captain, and pick a squad name." Nox says, ready to get them out of her mane.

One snorted in shock. "Only one day of training, and you leave us?"

Nox pinned her ears. "Complain to the King, shorty. I didn't make the new rule."

After the group had whined and left, Nox turned to Ivory.
"How's the business?"

Ivory nodded, she understood completely on why she couldn't yet know of what may have happened. Ivory sighed as she heard the group complain, but redirected her attention to Nox as she began to speak.

"Work has been good, with all the new cadets, it has been pretty busy. I think it's getting to Nava, but I don't mind as much." she said, "You enjoying work? The cadets being easy on ya?" Ivory added sarcastically.

Ivory turned her head to face the back desk where she left her flowers. Lifting them off the desk, she turned back to face Nox.

"I think I'm going to close shop for the day, and visit the foals, would you like to come? If you are busy I understand," she said.

"I'll come with. I'm beat tired. Nothing else to do today." Nox says in relief. She was glad to be able to talk to an old friend.

"King Grendal changed the training program for scouts. As you know, before, we would train them slowly and pick out the bad apples. Now, they sign up, take one trip with a prefect, and start a new squad. It's ridiculous. At least I don't have to babysit them anymore." She confessed as the trotted.
