Every one of you will be a hero someday.”

A gear turned.

Triggered by some unknown force, it rotated slowly but surely around its axis, promoting other gears around it to do so. Soon, the entire tower was filled with the symphony of one large machine grinding its way towards a single goal.

Every time something clicked, a new layer of gears responded. What started at the base began to build up and up towards the apex. At this point, the machinery ground to almost a halt, the gears struggling against the buildup of many things that had accumulated over the season. Finally, it worked.

Gears spun smoothly. The tower was filled with humming. Large hands wound around a face at the top of the structure.

A bell rang. Another. A third, a fourth, a fifth. Six, seven. The clocktower, which had remained dormant during the warmest season, was once again active.

The annual day of the academy’s opening had arrived.

In two different forests, there were two different yet similar locations. Both consisted of a platform, with four pipes of varying shades of green and yellow leading into them. However, the symbols on the platform in front of the pipes varied, as did the forests themselves. One was in a lush, green rainforest, with birds chirping and the sounds of a distant creek. This was known as Pipe Yard A. The other, on the contrary, was surrounded by a dead and blackened landscape of skeleton trees, with a mystical-looking purple river nearby. This was Pipe Yard C.

Pipe Yard A ‘s symbols consisted of a mushroom, the triforce, a pokeball, and a bow. Each of these held significance to the universe that the particular pipe led to. There were benches made from a dark wood around the circumference of the platform. Only one was occupied, next to the pipe with the bow symbol. Its occupant appeared to be just a red-haired teen, plus some wings, who was wearing jeans, a white hoodie (with holes in the back for her wings), white sneakers, and a golden laurel crown.

Pipe Yard C’s symbols were a fern, an unidentifiable weapon, what appeared to be an ideogram of some sort, a star, An does something indiscernible. The benches were made of metal, but looked surprisingly comfortable. No one was at this platform yet.

Soon, students would come from their worlds, out of the pipes, and into this universe. They would wait at their pipe yard for a bus to come, which would bring them to the academy.

Until then, though, they had to just sit and wait.

Pipe Yard A: Mario, LoZ, Pokemon, Kid Icarus
Starlow, Kafei, Bulbasaur, Prim
Pipe Yard B: Kirby*, EarthBound, Metroid, Fire Emblem
Pipe Yard C: Broken Earth, Exile, BNHA, Kirby*, FaBO
Aria, Morgan, Iso, Magolor, Marx, Glenn

Teachers are all at the academy already (unless they’re just running late)

Well, how does it feel now?

Urgh... how much did I have last night?

Oh, this ain't a hangover, boy. This is real life.

Whaddaya mean?

Wake up, and see for yourself...

Kafei awoke lying flat on his back in what appeared to be a the middle of a forest. Still dizzy, he opened his eyes, sat up, and took in his surroundings. The chirping of the birds and the ripples of a nearby stream mingled with the ringing in his ears and the heavy, slathering breaths of an all-too-familiar enemy.

"All right, Majora, what did you do to me this time?"

Oh, nothing. I just did what I did to yeh last time, stealin' yer maturity n' whatnot...

"YOU WHAT?" Kafei spluttered, springing to his feet. As he looked down at himself, he made sure to take in every detail. He was dressed in an immaculate violet uniform, decked with a Keaton mask pin at the collar and a yellow rose in the lapel. There was no sign of the lean, defined musculature he'd worked so hard for, only the sort of waifish body a JRPG protagonist would possess. This could only mean one thing.

"...you turned me into one of those anime boys, didn't you?"

The demon laughed a coarse, throaty, echoing laugh. 'Course I did! And now you've got to remain this way until I can pay off me CrunchyRoll subscription.

Sighing, the man-turned-anime teen picked up the backpack that must have been his, and instinctively headed towards the pipe marked with the Triforce. What is a Crunchyroll, anyway? he muttered to himself.

Prim rubbed the side of her right wing, trying to fold all of the feathers back into place without hurting herself too much. Alas, a painless procedure was not possible. A couple of feathers fluttered down to earth as she shifted her hoodie into a somewhat more comfortable position.

Curse humans and their stupid attire, she thought as she settled back down. I could be wearing a dress or chiton made specifically for angels, but nooo, I have to look normal on my first day. Can’t scare the freshies and all that. She sighed. 20 years of tailoring, gone to waste.

The sound of soft footsteps made her look up. A boy, about her (physical) age, with shocking purple hair. That was the first feature she noticed. Everyone has their “feature”; the one everyone associates with you. This boy’s would be his hair. Hers would be her wings. Everyone has something.

“Hey,” She said, her legs swinging under her bench. A feather drifted down from her swaying wings and touched the ground ever so softly. “I don’t think I’ve seen you before. Then again, maybe we’ve just never had a class together, since you look like a... senior? Maybe junior. Of course, looks can be deceiving. Heh.” She smiled. “In case we haven’t met, I’m Prim.”

Iso carefully crept to pipe yard c, taking care in keeping herself quiet for a reason she wasn't quite sure of. Her ears swerved to catch the slight noises that may pose a threat, even if she knew there was none. Her luminous eyes darted from the people currently there, analyzing their features so she wouldn't forget them when she learned their names.

After a moment, or two (or three), she sat on the ground, tail patiently swishing behind her. She started humming a strange, quiet melody as she stared at the, strangely, purple river before her.

Magolor groaned, yawning as he began to stretch. His golden eyes slid open, blinking as he took in his surroundings, and mentally registered the large, warm ball of fluff nestled into his side as the sleeping form of Marx. The two had camped out nearby Pipe Yard C, due in part to the fact that they had nowhere else to go, and were using the Halcandran’s cape as a blanket of sorts.

Magolor gently nudged Marx’s side, wanting to make sure his friend was awake before he got up. “Hey, Marx..?” When he got no response, the Halcandran nudged the small jester’s side again. “Marx, c’mon, you have to get up!” After a few seconds, Marx groaned softly and began to blink open his eyes, prompting Magolor to pull his hand back.

“Maggie..? Why are we getting up so early?”

“Good morning!” Magolor chirped happily, helping Marx get up to his feet. “It’s the first day of school, remember? Are you excited?”

Marx sighed, shuffling his feet as Magolor helped fix his bowtie. “Not really… What if.. what if they make fun of me, too, mhm?”

Magolor frowned, flicking an ear as he began to feel a little uneasy. The Halcandran huffed, smoothing out Marx’s hat before turning towards the pipe. “Well, I suppose I won’t allow that happen, alright? And…” He hesitated. “If anyone does decide to mess with you.. please let me know. I wouldn’t hesitate to curse somebody for a week for you, you know.” Marx giggled, baring his still-dull fangs in a grin, causing Magolor to smile as well. “Well, c’mon! The earlier we get there, the better!”

“Pleasure to meet you, madame. My name’s Kafei.”

As he held out a hand, he noticed something loose enough to still fit around his neck.

Oh, and by the way, I installed a shock collar on you.

“DSFDDFFD—SHOCK COLLAR?” Kafei began frantically tugging at the strap of leather around his neck. “All right, you filthy demon. This is the last straw! Childproof me again any further and I’ll—OH, HEY, PRIM! I wasn’t talking to you, only the...demon deity... who’s been tagging along in my brain.” Realizing Prim was still there, he stood up, stiff, straight and sweating. “Please don’t take any offense, PLEASE don’t take any offense...”

Prim was about to shake his hand when he blew up for no apparent reason. She jumped in her seat and reeled back. “What the actual - ???” Her hands fumbled for a hold on the bench as she almost fell off of it. Is this a normal occurrence, or...?

“Um.” She lifted a hand like she was trying to pause the conversation, but it just fell limply to her side. “... okay. I did not understand any of that - well, some of it, but... what the heck?!?” She gave him a sideways look. “Was I supposed to know about this?! I swear Frederick or Headmaster Hand would have told me about some possessed chi- student.”

The angel paused for a moment to collect her thoughts. “Is this demon important or something? If so, don’t touch me; I’m a bit toxic to dark spirits.” She hesitated. “... What’s a shock collar?”

"Possessed? Possessed? Oh, I wouldn't call it possession." The violet-haired chap fiddled with the collar around his neck. Why the hell would he even have this thing? It was supposed to be used for racing dogs, to shock them if they lose and put them in a winning mindset. "Maj here's been homeless ever since we burned his mask."

I caused a whole country to blow up!

Quiet, you.

This was getting awkward, even for Kafei. He wasn't used to shutting off his charm so suddenly. He needed to escape. He needed—

"I NEED A SHOT—KYAAAAAAAAAH!" With that, he was hit with a nine-volt charge, eliciting another peal of laughter from Majora. "What was that for?"

Now, now, hotshot. Good boys don't drink under the legal age.

This was going to be a long few years.

Prim sat awkwardly as Kafei carried on with his seemingly one-sided conversation. After hearing what he said, she wasn’t even that sure she was surprised when he yelled. Maybe that’s what a shock collar does, she thought as he questioned the unseen entity.

“So...” She twiddled her thumbs awkwardly. “How, um... how old are you, exactly?” Before he’d been zapped, she heard him say something about wanting - no, needing a shot. Prim had been on Earth long enough to know what that meant. She also knew that someone his age (by the looks of it) should not be asking for that.

The students at Pipe Yard C probably heard a rumbling. A school bus with shiny new paint rolled up a little dirt and gravel road that likely no one had noticed before. It stuttered to a halt in front of the platform where the students sat. The doors slid open to reveal an empty inside, save for the driver, who appeared to be a... turtle?

“All aboard, ye maties!” He shouted to the students.
