Abrax was sold the moment the imperial mentioned getting drinks. "Well now you're speaking my language friend, and here I thought today was gon' end as a complete waste. Color me pleasantly surprised." Contracts were typically few and far in between during this time of year, leaving the bounty hunter with far too much time on his hands. If he was honest he didn't mind too much, it have him time rest. He took a moment to admire the assortment of blades, typically speaking he preferred to use his teeth and claws when it came to a battle but he could appreciate the craftsmanship.

"You in a hunting profession?" He squinted the one remaining eye on his left, "I'm going to guess mercenary. Mostly because I've only ever seen Mercs Cary this much gear at once." His tone was easy, and perhaps a bit curious. He sat back on his haunches and looked up to study the imperial, his face was covered by a dark plague doctor's mask; the crown of his head was shrouded in a mixture of fur, feathers, and a pair of ebony antlers. By this point he was well aware that he was staring still he couldn't quite bring himself to look away. He curled his tail around his feet and stopped inspecting the other male, "so did you have a designated watering hole you'd like to visit?"

Well, I'll shoot her with my ray gun when she comes. Yes, I'll shoot her with my ray gun when she comes. Yes, I'll shoot her with my ray gun, oh, I'll shoot her with my ray gun. Yes, I'll shoot her with my ray gun when she comes. When she comes!
@ResidentLunatic (wasn't sure if you were subbed to the thread or not, so i'm pinging you just in case- but just saying, i'm probably getting offline for tonight after this reply ^^)

Magus chuckled, a rumbling sound, and gave a short nod to the question. "S'pose ye could call it that. Used t'be a merc, but ain't much of one anymore. Could say I'm retired." Shrugging one shoulder, he began packing up the various weapons carefully. Tucking them into bags, or belts that were hidden under his layers of apparel.

"Yer active in th' business, my guess. If I can tell anythin' from them scars on ye." He loosely waved with one paw and turned his attention away from his current task to look at the Mirror. Who was rather intently staring up at him, which didn't bother him too much. He was used to stares if he was honest.

"I got a good chunk'a scars under all this crap," he paused to pat the thick coat and armor that he wore, "that I wear most'a th' time. 'Less some'un's lucky t'see me outta it." He laughed, then. A hearty noise.

"Ah? Hell, I jus' go t' wherever has th' best ale, I suppose. Ye heard of Rotrock Raven? S'got some mean brew, if I can say m'self." Once he was sure he'd gotten each and every little thing back into their rightful place, he turned his full attention to the Mirror. "Ah, figure I should intr'duce m'self an' be polite, aye! I'm Magus.Mind if I ask yer name, too?"

Okay, and yeah I'm subbed ^^)

The mirror grinned, and matched the hearty laugh with one of his own, his gravelly voice smoothing out with the sound. "I'll have to stick around and catch you with out all the layers." He stood again and glanced over his scars, "yeah I've taken my share of beatings. Active Bounty Hunter." His grin turned playful, "you think these tell stories, you should see the ones on the other guys."

Watching Magus put away all his gear almost reminded Abrax of a magic trick, the way it all seemed to vanish into the layers of clothes. "M' more of a whiskey man, but hey variety is the spice of life right? The name doesn't sound too familiar, granted I spend most nights down at the Lynched Lady. Seedy little place but the price is always agreeable." When the retired mercenary introduced himself Abrax found himself repeating the name. "Magus. I'm Abraxas, but folks just call me Abrax. Sounds less paunchy. It's good to meet you Magus."

An amused expression flashed across his face and he flicked his ears forward. "Well, if ye manage to outdrink me, ye'll get t'see a couple'a layers gone at least!" After he'd checked a second time to make sure he'd gotten everything properly tucked away, he rose to his feet with a huff.

"And they've got a variety! Ain't a worry fer tryin' t'get somethin' ye wouldn't enjoy. I don't drink seriously cause most'a my drinkin' partners can't hold their whiskey worth anythin'." He waved a paw slightly after he spoke. "Ye look like some'un who could keep up with me, though."

Lowering his head down to be more level with Abrax, he tilted his head. "Pleasure t'meet ye, Abrax! Always good t'meet some'un with a lil in common, aye?" Raising his head back up, he motioned loosely outward. "Th' Rotrock Raven ain't too far from 'ere, so not too long a walk t'be had. If I walk too fast, I ain't gonna blame ye if a swift smack t' th' ankles is needed t'slow me down."

"The pleasure is all mine." He couldn't help but speak honestly when the imperial mentioned having a drinking buddy that could keep up. "I'll say. My last drinking buddy was my arms dealer, he was such a light weight I had to carry him home half the time. The other half I bought him a room and hung up a 'do not disturb' sign for his sake. An' my brother, you couldn't pay him to spend time with me. Liquor or no." He fell silent for a beat walking, well more like trotting alongside Magus.

"I'm sorry you didn't ask to listen to my plights." He chuckled at the ankles comment. "If your pace becomes too much I'll be sure to do just that. And for the record I think I'll do just fine keeping up with your drinking." He gave a cocky smile, he was taking this like a personal challenge. He wanted to prove his mettle, and with seeing more of this massive dragon without so many layers of clothing, also on the table, he decided he'd have a good enough motivation to pace himself for once rather than getting plastered as quickly as possible.

((physical and mental health is a fickle thing :'> here's a reply finally, though...!))

Magus did try to slow his usual walking speed just a bit while also listening to the Mirror talk. Ears perked up to show he was listening, as well as a light chuckle escaping him at the story. "Aye? Well, ain't a worry 'bout me bein' any sort'a lightweight." At the apology, he waved a paw and huffed slightly. "Nah, no need fer apologies! Hearin' stories is plenty fine wit' me, aye."

With the bold declaration of being able to keep up with his drinking, an amused expression crossed his face under the mask he wore. "Ye think so, aye? Don't go drinkin' yerself into gettin' sick, though. Gotta keep in mind ye ain't as large as me. Hate t'have a new possible pal get alcohol poisonin' before havin' a chance t'get t'know each other better!"

He was speaking good-naturedly, no haughtiness in his tone at all. He was a blunt speaker, so he'd offended others without meaning to before.

With a rumbling chuckle he glanced back up at the larger male, "I hold no illusion of being able to drink the quantity you can but with a bit of pacing I can guarantee you at least a whole night of my company. Granted that ain't too much of a dazzling thing but I'm full of stories."

"I've had a run in or two with poisoning myself, though alcohol wasn't the first culprit. Certainly won't be the last either, s'why I do my best to enjoy the days and nights I've got. Still I think I might just surprise you, and I can promise you that I'll try to."

"I'll hold ye t'yer word, then! Ain't a shame in sayin when yer done, either." At the mention of poisoning, Magus turned to look down, brow raised even though it was hidden for the time being. "Aye? Gracious. Cn't say poison's been used 'gainst me before, but I got th' scars from plenty'a blades!"

Momentarily he raised a wing, one of the few parts of him mostly uncovered, and motioned to an area where the edges of the tough leather of his wing was ragged and torn, looking as if it was made by teeth. "This'un is one a th' worse ones I got! Makes flyin' a bit tough sometimes."

Folding his wing back and looking back where he was walking, Magus laughed warmly. "I'm sure we both have enough stories t'last th' night, aye? Been too long since I had some good company! Anyways- Th' tavern ain't too far, just a bit more walkin t'go."
