Lupinus: of the wolf

Important: now that the roleplay has begun, new characters should be made either human(to be bitten in the story or to simply live in Rowan)or loners (to enter the Alarie territory and maybe join). No more automatic members of the pack will be accepted, they must join through roleplay! If there's a role besides these, go ahead and ask me!
Werewolves
The small town of Rowan hosts a peculiar feature. It's a safe haven for a pack of werewolves, not that the normal citizens are aware. These werewolves have the ability to turn into wolves at will. In this form, they are stronger, faster, and heal quicker. However, this comes with a price. While their abilities increase with the waxing of the moon, their control decreases. On the full moon, this is at its peak. Often an alpha will take their pack deep into their territory on the full moon and spend it running them to exhaustion.
Werewolves can be born or bitten. There are few differences between them, but born werewolves tend to exhibit better control over their shift and are more competent alphas. However, being born or bitten does not account for individual differences in speed or strength. Only an alpha can bite someone to change them, which ensures only wolves they choose are added to their pack. Bitten wolves join the pack of the alpha which turned them an overwhelming majority of the time, as bites are considered gifts, not to be forced upon an unwilling human. Alphas are never born, the power is passed down to another pack member upon the Alpha's death. It is unclear what dictates who is next in line.
Packs themselves are usually small. Made of no more than twenty wolves, the group must be tightly knit and trust each other with their lives. There may be loose hierarchies among the follower, or beta wolves, but the only absolute authority is the alpha. They are not migratory creatures, instead staking out one territory and defending it viciously. They are also fiercely protective of each other as well as physically affectionate. It is rare that any werewolf has personal space issues, especially when members of their pack are like extensions of their own limbs.
They look much like humans when not in their shifted forms, and are usually tall and well muscled. When emotionally heightened, their eyes will change as well as their fangs and claws growing. Alphas have eyes of liquid gold, and betas have the purest silver.
In rare cases, there are wolves who don't belong to a pack. There are many reasons why this might be the case, but none of them are pleasant. Lone wolves are weaker than those with a pack, and they lack the control of pack creatures. Their instincts, all of which urge the creature to seek an alpha and a pack, ensure that a lone wolf is never content, and often migratory. Their eyes are a stagnant bronze.

Rowan
Rowan is large enough to maintain anonymity, but small enough to be surrounded by dense woods and not receive many visitors. They have their own grocery store, gas station, coffee shop, and a few family run restaurants to serve as amenities.
The townsfolk remain blissfully ignorant of the secrets hidden in the woods. They stay away from the mist-bound trees, and not even hunters dare to tread within.

The Pack
Nora Alarie leads the Rowan Pack. She encourages her betas to move into the Den, a large mansion in the woods, only connected to Rowan by a private dirt road. The Den was passed down through her family, as an Alarie has led the Rowan Pack for generations. In order to keep her pack in fighting shape, she often drills them on sparring, hunting, tracking, and other skills she deems necessary. She allows her pack free reign otherwise, to go into town freely or remain in the woods.
Feel free to make other Alarie relatives!
Plot
Marcel Alarie, Nora's uncle, was the previous alpha of the Rowan pack. He was a prideful wolf who started many conflicts with other packs and even provoked the hunters of the supernatural. Eventually, he was slain. However, the harm had already been done. The Alarie pack was no longer an honorable name, and many who bore grudges seek to strike while the pack is still weak.
Many of the betas left while Marcel was leading the pack, and Nora was left with few betas when she took his place. She's done her best to gather more, but a storm is brewing and she worries it will be too late.
