@mmuted "We welcome your alliance, and would love to have you visit our city to meet face to face" These were the words that kept whispering in the back of Huracan's mind as he flew across the Ascent, his stomach fluttering with nervous excitement. An alliance, for his clan! He'd barely been leader for a few weeks when a courier came to him with a letter from a different clan in the Ascent, one so large they had built a city! They wished to form an alliance, so each clan could grow and benefit from one another. After careful consideration and talking with the other members of the clan, he had sent a letter of his own back to them saying they gladly accepted, and would come to visit a week from that day. That day arrived, and now he was on his way to meet with their leader. The Nocturne wasn't alone of course, and had picked the clan's chief hunter to accompany him to the meeting. Conan was amiable and had a good attitude, but was fierce in a fight and skilled in the art of disappearing into the wilderness. Soon, he saw it. A grand city, situated on a peculiar four in one plateau that appeared almost like steps. Huracan spotted a platform where dragons were landing and taking off from, and angled his wings into a dive with Conan hot on his heels. The patriarch landed gracefully, and turned to watch Conan land before saying "This must be the Dive they mentioned in the letter, I believe this is where we're meeting. You still have a hold on the gifts?" The Mirror grinned and motioned to the satchel on his side "Still there boss. Let's get goin', this is gonna be right fun!" ( @RyeKnight No problem! I'm gonna try and get a decent post in real quick before bed, a little bit on the long side for the sake of setting up. Neither of my two have any notable accent, but Sakura has a generally mellow/calming voice and Balrog is mute so he'll be signing all his dialogue. Formal guests! This hasn't happened in so long, and she's much more experienced as a clan leader now that she's sure she can make a better impression this time--not that it hurt the last few alliances, or she was told, since her alliances all remain steady even though she was a young leader who was sort of fumbling through her diplomacy meetings. She'd relied heavily on her friends and close advisers for the entire events, but this time, she's confident enough in herself that she's doing things mostly on her own with only some small chirps of advice from proper diplomats within the clan. She'd spent the week making sure the city was clean top to bottom, and when there was little to fix in that regard she turned her attention to what she'd wear. At her friend's advice, she'd decided to go a route of light armor and a crown to show leadership while retaining the decorative silks and jewelry of a formal event, and as she waits alongside her ever-silent guard--heavens, she'd forgotten Balrog was even there; he's so quiet he seems to disappear--for her guest to arrive on the landing platform she picks at her attire to make sure it's perfect. Maybe she's a little overdressed, she thinks? But it's better safe than sorry. Sakura sees her guests land now though and doesnt have time to overthink it as she bounds over to greet them with a warm grin. "Hello, hello! Welcome! You must be Huracan?" She beams at the Nocturne. "It's such a pleasure to have you here!" Behind her, Balrog smiles a bit and gives a little wave.

Behind her, Balrog smiles a bit and gives a little wave.

Huracan sees the two Wildclaws approach and is at first taken aback by them. The one who greeted him had to be the leader, and she really struck a magnificent figure alongside her equally majestic guard. The armor they wore was also beautifully handcrafted and looked like it came from the best forges in the Ashfall Waste.

The Nocturne quickly composed himself and smiled back as the leading Wildclaw, bowing his head respectfully to her "I am indeed. You must be Sakura, it's a pleasure to meet you. I want to thank you for inviting me to meet with you and see your city, it's truly a wonder to behold" Huracan glanced back at Conan a little anxiously, hoping he had said the right things and receiving an encouraging smile from the Mirror. Huracan then motioned him forward to give the pair the gifts they had brought "This is Conan, he's our chief hunter for the clan. He has some gifts from our clan to yours as a sign of good will"

Conan opened the satchel, and brought out some neatly folded handwoven silks and other handmade artisanal items "For you m'lady, oh and one last thing-" He takes out a small oaken cask with a spigot on it, and Huracan says "This is a specialty of ours, it's a rice wine we make ourselves. We make many types of it, including a kind that's for hatchlings" Huracan then falls silent so they could look over the gifts, feeling relieved that he seems to be doing an ok job at diplomacy so far.

"You flatter me," coos the Wildclaw, taking the gifts with cheeks dusted just a bit pinker than usual. "Thank you! I have a lot of pride in my city. We started out as just a couple of kids wandering around to find a place to start our lives and eventually we just sort of... grew." She looks at the gifts she's been given, grinning. "Oh, these are all beautiful and Im certain our best artisans will be able to make wonderful use of the materials ere. I love a bit of wine once in a while, too, so many thanks." She passes off some of the items to Balrog for safe keeping, but tucks the wine into a bag of her own sitting between her wings. "Oh, and this is Balrog! He's the best guard of the clan. He doesn't speak, but he does sign, if you know sign language."

As Sakura talks, Balrog watches with a dutiful eye. He get the immediate feeling that the Nocturne is a lot like Sakura was just a few years ago, new and nervous and seemingly utterly harmless. It's kind of adorable. He can tell the Mirror knows more about this type of thing than Huracan does, much like Sastrugi does here at the Crosswinds. The similarities bring a subtle grin of his own, but he makes no comment as he dips into a bow. "Enjoy your stay," he signs, even if they in fact cannot find any meaning in the way his talons move.

"Pleasure to meet you too Balrog" Huracan says, completely lost on what he was signing before Conan leaned over and told him what he had said. The Nocturne looked surprised at him "You know sign language? How did you come by that?"

"Had a pal once that also couldn't talk back in me wandering days, he used the same sort of movements to talk and I figured t'was a good skill to learn. He was a Spiral too so he usually did it really fast so I had to learn pretty quickly just so I knew what the heck he wanted to tell me!" The Mirror laughed, then dipped his head back to Sakura and Balrog saying cheerfully "But enough of the past, shall we continue on into your lovely city?"

Balrog grins when he knows he's been understood, half expecting Sakura to have to speak on his behalf. "I have been mute since I was a child, so I didnt have much choice in learning," he signs with a shrug.

Sakura laughs a bit. "He's no Spiral, so hopefully he wont be too fast to catch. Dont be afraid to ask him to repeat himself, he doesn't bite too hard for it." She winks, nodding eagerly at the question. "Of course!" She sways her arms, gesturing around with her tail stiff behind her for balance. "Starting here, since we're...well, here. The landing platform is big enough to support a family of Imperials, though it's uncommon for us to ever have more than a few at a time. We call the place Daedalus' Dive--Daedalus, an adoptive son of mine, used to cliff dive as a hatchling, right off the edge of the platform here. Scared the life out of me, it did, the guy didn't even know how to fly yet!" She snickers a bit. "The name was just a joke among clanmates but it stuck, so that's what we call it."

Huracan glanced over the edge with a low whistle "That's a pretty brave dive for a hatchling, even I'd have second thoughts about leaping off a cliff this high. But this platform you've built is quite a feat of engineering, and is quite nice for dragons who may have some difficulty taking off so they can get a good running start"

Conan laughed "And here I thought my boys were a handful, none of them have tried jumping off a cliff yet though they've certainly gotten into plenty of mischief. They're only young once though, better to let them have some fun while they still can" He then turned to Sakura looking interested "Sorry if this is too personal a question but you mentioned Daedalus was adopted? How did you come to adopt him if I might ask?"

She grins, eyes sparkling. "Daedalus was an interesting case. It was around the winter solstice, when the nights were longer and tons of Nocturnes were swarming the continents. We had a band of them come through, and I didn't think much of it--we're a city with many travelers, so of course we'd see many Nocturnes that time of year--but one night, I'd come to go to bed for the night and found a small chest on my door with a little egg inside of it. I'd lost a clutch of my own the month before, so I saw it as a sort of second chance. A few weeks of incubation later, out came a tiny little Nocturne boy with no fear." Sakura's voice is warm as she tells the story, love written clearly on her face for her son. "He's been a troublemaker from the start, always doing what he could to chase a thrill. Today he travels and is learning cartography, but he still dives from time to time."

Conan smiles at her "It sounds like you really hold him close to your heart even though he is a troublemaker. I see where you're coming from, I've got four boys of my own and even though they sometimes drive me to the brink o' insanity I still love them." He then turns to Huracan, a mischievous smirk on his face "You'll learn what that's like soon enough once you have kids of your own, eh?"

Huracan flushed, coughing to cover up his embarrassment "Ah right, I'm sure I will. I do hope we get to meet Daedalus in the future, he sounds like a very interesting dragon. I'm sure he's having quite the adventure traveling, I hope he'll stay out of trouble. Shall we move on, I'm excited to see the rest of your city!"

"It's more than worth it," Sakura agrees, excited. "I've only had a few biological of my own, and theyve all grown and moved on in life, but Daedalus stuck around. He's out visiting his Arcane pen pal and wont be home for a few days, but perhaps you'll meet him if you come visit later!" She grins.

Sakura turns towards the rest of the plateau and beckons the group to follow with a flick of her tailfeathers. "Sure, let's go! Up ahead is the residential district," she explains as she walks. "It's on our biggest section of the plateau and is where all of our permanent population stays. In building, we made sure to keep a bit of uniformity with color and material, but the vast majority of the houses are built in a shape and size tailored to the needs of whoever's going to live there. There's a few pre-built houses we have built, for those who aren't picky or dont have the money to get something custom right away."

The houses come in all shapes and sizes, big enough to house Guardians and Ridgebacks down to one particularly small Fae house built on the side of a home belonging to a Skydancer planting some flowers under a window. All of them have roughly the same color scheme, with slight variations here and there.
