TOPIC | AH Color Search - Color Wheel Sections

Instead of just a very specific search for dragons or going with just "All", why not have an option for something in the middle?
Say you're looking for a dragon with red colors in the primary. As things stand now, you have to make an individual search for specific colors. It'd be nice if, instead, we could pick multiple colors or a section of the color wheel.

It'd also be nice if we could do a blacklist of certain colors or genes. If someone is fine with all genes but Clown, they could make the engine not pull up Clown.

I'd really like to be able to search colour ranges too, but if listing a bunch of tick boxes is too busy then maybe have the option to bring up a colour wheel? Then not only can people see the colours as they select them, but they can click on a single 'slice' of the wheel for one colour or click and drag for a colour range. Maybe also allow using shift for colour ranges and ctrl for multiple colours - this would be intuitive as it's used a lot already and would allow people to pick multiple colours not in a range.

So: if people want a simple search, they can just use the drop down box that already exists.

If they want an advanced search, they click a small icon of the colour wheel next to the drop down box. A large version of the colour wheel appears in a pop-up box.

People can now view all the colours as they decide what to search for.

If they want to search for one colour, they click it and then hit okay.

If they want to search for a colour range, they have two options. The first is they can click on a colour at one end of the range and drag the cursor around the wheel to the colour at the other end of the range. The other option is that they click the first colour then hold shift as they click the last colour. Both options result in all the colours between the first and last colour clicked selected. They can then hit okay to search for this colour range.

If they want to search for a few unrelated colours, they can click one colour that they want, then hold ctrl as they click for each of the other colours they want. They can then hit okay.

When the person hits okay, the pop-up box dissapears so that it no longer covers the AH page. The person can then change other search options, or just hit 'search'.

I always support the following AH search additions: age, RTB, level, color range, specie range, and gene range. But as an Advanced Search to prevent clutter.

If writers are supposed to "show not tell," why are we called "storytellers" and not "storyshow-ers"?
@inanequiddity A color-wheel click-and-drag thing sounds like a nice mechanic!

Support for anything here. Checkboxes for genes and breeds (which would allow "anything except X" selection), and ability to select color ranges, either with a click-and-drag colorwheel (or even a colorwheel with checkboxes, let's go a bit crazy! ;) ) or just a thing where you have two color dropdowns for the primary and you search for all the colors between them, and same for the secondary and tertiary.

Support. I would so love a range of color option. It'd be awesome to get multiple search on everything, actually, so you could search, say, a whitish primary with either stripes or freckle secondary. But the colors, definitely. For breeding projects, often you don't really care about the exact color, you just need it in a certain region of the wheel, and searching each color one after another in the AH is tedious.

Also support for a 'not' search.

Oh goodness, yes. I'd love a color range option.

Not only would it allow for easier searching (the amount of time I have spent searching the possible combinations for something could really have been better spent elsewhere), but it would also allow for some dragons with more uncommon/not as popular colors to even be seen by potential buyers.

I like the Advanced Search idea too, so you can search multiple breeds/genes at once.

Support! This would be really handy.

Support! Sometimes I'm looking for more than one gene at once or colour ranges, even multiple dragon breeds (but not all of them). So being able to select more than one colour/a range and blacklist others would be so useful.

+1 And I would love to narrow it down by age range as well for a Advance Search option. It can be really basic like 1 week, one month, two months, etc.
