Reasons as given: _____
Possibly to be replaced with something else. Suggestions on the something elses?
Reasons against it:
Accusations of admin favoritism
People taking all of their vitriol off site where it's less easily policed
Elitism and a sense of "oh I'm an MVP that must mean that my words mean something" resulting in minimodding (though I suppose this would result in MVP status being taken away if it was caught)
Things it could be replaced with:
Just about any of the achievements could have a vista tied to it. From collecting all of the breeding achievements to exalting X amount of dragons to training X amount of dragons to a certain level...
Swipp vistas
oooo there could even be user made vistas that would be a simpler version of a skin that would follow the same standards as the official vistas
While good intentioned I can see how this MVP vista can make the community go downhill really quick and I don't want it to backfire like that.
Course it's just as possible that the community isn't as full of butts as I believe and nothing will do wrong. I'm honestly kind of apathetic towards keeping it or not (I wouldn't miss it if it were gone, I wouldn't be upset if it stayed).

The admins might use this to reward players that function as yes men for them, and the players may use this to belittle non-MVP players. People might get very desperate for the vista, and tear apart anyone who questions the ability of the admins in the hopes of the vista.

Wait, what's the reason given?
I personally would want it to be a "forum poster" type of vista -- reward users for participating in the forums, instead of being goody-two-shoes. It's good to get into heated debates.

I agree.

There's so many players that fit that description of level headedness, helpful or constructive that it would no doubt just be a base popularity contest -or- a scramble to impress staff rather than a real effort to improve the community for all.
Haves vs. havenots would ultimately be unfair to those who have contributed in a meaningful way yet gets overlooked because the only element in this is "Are you noticed by staff?". MVP status would turn into a luck factor and would no doubt dishearten those who have done great work consistently throughout the community or great prior work a year ago, yet never receive recognition while someone else gets that recognition.
It would be different if there was a regular way to get one and MVP was just something special, but having it just like the kickstarter vistas as pure bling that no normal user can get is really disheartening and I'm sad that we are getting yet another superspeshul vista rather than something attainable by players through contests or fair play rather than this random chance.
I thought that in the kickstarter/beta that it was mentioned that forum vistas would be obtainable later on through other means. What happened to that? Why are vistas becoming something that only the elite can have?
Agreeing on this fully and also wondering about the kickstarter/beta mentions. It saddens me to see that this might just be yet another elitist thing to come.
I'm going to third this. I've seen many people feel sad and unhappy because they've done a lot of good, but someone else got something and they didn't, even though they didn't do nearly as much as the first person. I don't think it's fair to the users to start awarding something like this.
Plus, does it really have to be called MVP? That's most valuable player, which is usually used in sports, and the title is very competitive. It places the person who received the MVP title above the others.
"You've done so much, so have this super special little title! It calls you most valuable, so the other people, while valuable, aren't as valuable as you and are below you in status!"
It also suggests things that could be put in instead, or ways to try and help it not seem so..well...
I agree.

I just hate the name MVP, after reading a lot about it and agreeing with much of what has been said.
I'm still vouching for karma points/point system though. Perhaps with the admins being alerted of when someone has hit the 'point threshold' and going over the account to make sure people are fishing for points or anything like that.
I think we should have different areas people are rewarded for. Honest Seller/Trader, Helpful, In-Flight Oriented(better name for that heh), etc. I'd love to see multiple people get a vista for stuff, over a few people getting one for fitting into everything, y'know?

I really just want a vista tied to the "You're The Best Around" achievement, and for that achievement to be given monthly/semi-monthly/etc. to someone for being a good player as nominated by the community and agreed upon by the admins. Not someone that is chosen just by the admins.

I'm against the MVP vista entirely because, as FR grows, it'll be harder and harder to keep track of all that's going on. With a small community, it's not as much of a problem -- with a large one, and only a handful of admins, it turns into something bigger. It might even worsen the already-present rumors of admin favoritism and/or selective hearing, because the I believe admins can't and don't see everything.
With admin pickings and no member involvement, it also invites negativity if a person receives the vista and people disagree. What's to stop others from perpetuating the drama mill? From aiming at their new target, calling bias and favoritism?
Or perhaps I'm just pessimistic.
