TOPIC | Cut skin/accent makers slack.
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 ... 81 82
So I've been lurking the Skin/Accent problems thread since it was created. The past few months I have been sickened by how things are being handled, mostly in the case of the 'gore' stuff.
Any tiny bit of red or blood gets declined. Zombies get declined unless they're only grey and green.
Please, cut the skin/accent makers some slack. I understand animal abuse is a big thing not to take lightly. However, I promise you that little dragon images are not animals being abused and not promoting it. These are fake dragons. They are not real. They are not suffering.

Please, please lighten up a little bit and allow users to submit their gore accents. It isn't fair that they work so hard on something that doesn't even remotely look like a creature suffering only to have it declined.
I actually don't really like the gore stuff. I have a weak stomach. But it still makes me super sad to see people's hard work being shoved aside, and I know it's making a lot of the users that make them pretty upset too.

Now, if someone makes a skin/accent that some how makes like it's screaming in agony with it's guts spilling out all over... Then I would understand not allowing that. But a dragon with cuts on it? An undead dragon with skin hanging off? That isn't suffering. It's already dead. And cuts? Cuts happen. I cut my finger a few days ago when slicing an onion. It hurt, yeah and it looked gross.. But I sure wasn't suffering.

Keep in mind we have gore all over the site anyways. Any one here from plague? People in plague have to look at creatures that were melted by God-knows-what sort of substance with their entrails strewn about into the shape of a nest. Maybe we need to get rid of plague flight then if users cant draw cuts on a dragon? (Don't get rid of plague flight. I'm just trying to make a point.)

TL;DR. Skin/accent stuff is getting ridiculously strict to the point where it's a joke. Please lighten up on the makers.

I would like to say once again that I don't really like gore nor have I tried to submit any skins/accents of such. I am going off my long term observations, which as I'm sure you can tell I am not too pleased about. This is not about me being butt-hurt. It's about things not being fair and hard work going to waste.

Changed my mind after thinking about it some.

I think that as long as the gore involved mimics the low-intensity stuff that's part of the site it should probably be allowed through the application process. Anything hyper-realistic or lovingly detailed is still a no-no for me, though.

@Jad Sorry for the ping! Not trying to start an argument or anything, but I did want to point out something it that's okay. It does appear that they are being declined for 'suffering'. Here is an example. PLEASE NOTE THIS IS NOT A CALL OUT. THIS IS AN EXAMPLE. PLEASE DONT KILL ME ADMINS. >_>
(Username removed) As it is, this design would not be accepted on the site. We're trying to avoid creating skin designs that give the impression of living creatures that appear to be suffering or in pain from massive wounds. Removing the red from this design would make it acceptable, here are some acceptable versions.
It's not really gore itself being declined.. Its just this crazy thing of "Oh this dragon has a cut it must be suffering". There are plenty of gore accents on here, such as coatls and spirals cut into segments with guts visible. But if there is any sort of dripping of blood from a cut or red around rotting limbs, then its declined.. Which to me is mind boggling when it is clear that those ones aren't suffering at all, but are declined because "We dont want to create an impression of suffering"

If someone can't handle a moderate amount of gore then they should not be on flight rising, where an entire flight is dedictated to death, decay, and illness

Full support for changing or removing anti-gore policies that aren't for excessive gore

The blood, in its redness, is obviously the problem as demonstrated by the advice to change its color to make it less instantly recognizable. If SS files all blood under suffering or just under 'blood, no', it doesn't really change my feelings. If 'suffering' as a concept was at the core of the problem, I would think the cut itself would need to be removed, no?

Could some of those skins/accents have been done before they changed any rules? What I am getting at is, could someone have complained (or enough people) loudly enough that they changed the submission policy and the others were 'grandfathered' in?

I am on the fence about this one. I odn't like seeing excessive gore (and not having seen the submissions in question don't know if they would bother me or not), but then again, I also don't have to use those.

I think I sort of agree with Jad about if it doesn't affect the avvie (as those I would see if I am on the forums and want to see who is talking) or affect the avvie in a truly gruesome way, then I wouldn't really see a problem with it.

Anyway, I am just wondering if they recently changed the rules for submission or something.

@Jemadar
The ones being declined? Some yes, others are recent. The spirals and such cut in half still exist, though I'm thinking the spirals came after the change.

The rules were 'changed' quite some time ago if I remember correctly. When the 'change' happened, it didn't seem as strict.. but it seems to be getting stricter and stricter (after seeing the last decline for gore in the issues thread.)

I can understand not wanting it for the avatar part. I think there are already a few that exist with gore and grossness on the head so I'm not sure how they would be effected by that.. But yeah.

Really, my main issue is about how strict it is, and considering we already have mass amounts of gore on site from the FR team.. Making it pretty unfair for users to submit their gore stuff. Insane amounts of gore should still not be allowed. Suffering should not be allowed.. But what is being declined is neither insane gore nor suffering. :c

I would support this, since 'no blood' seems a little bit limited for a T site.

@Bowno

Thanks for answering my questions :) I am relatively new, and while I would love to make a skin/accent, I haven't been hit by inspiration, at least yet (then there would be the whole getting the blueprints if I did) ,so I haven't paid much attention to the rules and guidelines.

Yeah, it does sound like the rules might be a too strict on that aspect at least. (wonder if this is what the other thread that I think was deleted was about). They should at the very least post an explicit guide/rule on what exactly is allowed (like what is 'suffering' at least in terms of art. Is it cuts, bleeding, dragons looking like they are in pain? etc..)
