TOPIC | Unique Dragon traits. [UPDATED]
1 2 3 4
Hi everyone. Well, first off I'd like to apologies if this has been suggested before. I have to admit I haven't spent a lot of time in the Suggestions forum so I wouldn't know. With that being said, here's my idea. I'd love it if we could give our dragons extra traits/ hobbies/ jobs by way of using items that we could buy from the marketplace or find in the Coliseum. What these traits should be exactly I'm not 100% sure but here are a few examples. [UPDATE] It has also been suggested that these could in the form of stat cards that you level up. I've gone ahead and made a list of hobbies and traits we could level up for our favourite dragons. Please keep in mind that these name suggestions are just that, suggestions, and if anyone has any better ideas please feel free to let me know. The levelling system could work the same say the familiar levelling up system works. That being said, however, I think we already have enough daily restrictions on this website (like I said, familiars, but also gathering, trivia, incubating, etc) and I think it would be nice to not put a daily cap on how much you can give your dragons to work with. For those who already have tons of trinkets that could potentially be used for this (unless they make new items) of course levelling up would be fairly easy and I don't think this should be a problem if this is just a 'cosmetic' change without any real perks. If we do get perks, such as exalting bonuses for these dragons, then maybe there could be a daily cap of some sort such as being able to level one hobby or trait only once a day? Say we get 5 traits to chose from, and we can only level each of them up once every 24 hours instead of just one every 24 hours. But I'll go back to what I said earlier! I don't think adding another cap would be beneficial. After all you can train and exalt however many dragons you want in a day without the system putting a stop to it. NOTE! Whether or not we should/ would get exalt bonuses doesn't mean these traits would give Coliseum benefits. The Coliseum should still strictly work with the system that is already implemented. Your dragon's traits shouldn't affect their battle stats. Reader- gained by reading books, duh. You may be wondering 'what's the point?' and, well, here's what I think.

 1. It would benefit not only hoarders but also people that aren't inclined to save every trinket or item they come upon. Not everyone is interested in Swapping or Chemistry and these items could benefit our dragons directly. It'll be interesting to see what people will chose to do with their trinkets now that they'll have an extra option.

i like it!!
traits that wouldnt interfere with the coliseum sound very cool

i have seen a few threads for things like these and usually they're to make the coliseum easier
but something like this for fun sounds really nice. no real rewards = no pressure to take the time fir a new mechanic you might not find fun :D

i think rankings (with no real perks) would be fun for traits- sort of how we have the VS coliseum leaderboard

Intelligence is already a coliseum stat. The strongest dragons aren't the only ones that help, high-intelligence dragons help just as much. The key is they have to be good at fighting, because that's what Dominance is: fighting against the other Flights and the Beastclans.

@PrinceRaven

That's true, Int is already a coli stat and I don't mean for this to be a way to increase that. The trait regarding book reading could be called bookworm or something like that.

So there are two options, get perks from exalting dragons with these new specific traits or don't. I personally don't see why we can't have perks for it but then again if we did have traits then I wouldn't mind it if they were just a cool way to show off what you dragon can do.

I'm also of the mindset that strength comes in many different shapes as well. Right now people are focusing on exalt fodder, and that's alright but why not have options?

@chespin

I agree, I like the idea of some sort of ranking as well. Maybe in the form of 'levels' for each individual trait? Not anything major, but just something on the dragon's profile that shows what they\re best at, what they've just started off, stuff like that.

As long as more dragons get exalted I'm all for it. I guess the new stats need a bit work on naming but that should not be too much of a problem.

this is adorable.

i definitely support it, esp for lore clans

It is interesting and I always liked various applied trait systems in other games, but I'm still stuck on the "what's the point" part. I think that if this gets implemented, some more definite differences should separate the with and the without dragons.

Because as I read right now (example):
dragon A - has Bookworm trait
dragon B - doesn't
and so what?

If the traits do not do anything except look pretty, then dragon A might as well have a book apparel equipped and that might give the same feeling as a Bookworm trait so in my opinion coding only that would not be worth the time spent :/

Well for starters this wouldn't bee a game breaking idea, I don't think, since people have the option to do it or not, which for me is the biggest reason as to why I'm suggesting it. It's not that I'm bored with the website but that a bit more variety won't hurt.

The traits could do plenty of things. On idea was that exalting dragons with certain traits might be rewarded similarly to our current exalt bonuses.

It could give hoarders something to do with their tens of trinkets other than swapping or brewing them. On the flip side of things it could give people an incentive to collect these trinkets so they could 'level up' their dragon's traits.

Also, maybe some people might like this for RP and OC purposes so they could give their dragons the personality traits they desire in the main/ upper part of their profile instead of having to edit their descriptions. Of course they still could, but it could be a cool collector's thing?

At any rate I know I'd very much like the idea of collecting as many trinkets as possible so I could level up traits in my dragons.
Well, this sentence suddenly makes the suggestion a lot more interesting, because only an icon to show a trait? Sorry, I saw too little results for (probably) a lot of coding and there are - in my opinion - more immersive ideas to spend coding time on. However, some sort of 'stat card' for each dragon is a very, very interesting idea even if the stats themselves do not do much on their own. I mean, it would open a new avenue of leveling/personalizing dragons and it would function as a tiny treasure sink (instead of hoardselling, some items would get used up to level a trait). That I'd like :)

I thought that might be interesting too! Obviously I don't know anything about coding and how all of this would work but I don't think it would be an impossible task if done a little bit at a time. For example a stat card for starters, then being able to exalt the dragons for perks, etc.

I'm not here to majorly change the website, though, which is why I'm holding back on saying "oh they should definitely do this" and instead trying to provide ways in which this could be implemented.
