TOPIC | Plz remove dodge mechanic in coli
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
Trying to level up a trainee to 25, but the enemy dodge rates I've encountered today have been so ridiculously high, it's infuriating and makes me want to tear my hair out.

I know admins had plans to alter enemy stats at some point in the future, but can we please just do away with the dodge mechanic in the coli altogether? It doesn't add fun or anything else of value to the already tedious and boring coliseum grinding experience and just serves to make it even more tedious and needlessly frustrating. There's no skill or strategy involved in coli grinding and there's nothing the player can do to combat or reduce the enemy's chances of dodging, it all seems to be RNG based.

It's not fun when a battle gets dragged out for longer than needed, or you take a lvl 25 team with full health into battle only for them to be totally wiped out by a mob of low level enemies because they dodged every damaging move you threw at them multiple times in a row, wasting your turns and your valuable time.

Also, no, nerfing eliminate isn't a good compromise for removing the dodge mechanic. That would just be replacing one annoying problem that drags out the mind numbing grind for longer than necessary with another.

2022 edit:
The enemy stat adjustment that was applied at the start of the warrior's way event hasn't made any difference to the dodge rates. It's just as obnoxious and frustrating as it has always been.

I was just thinking about this the day before yesterday. I agree that it should be removed. No one likes it and I don't really see any benefit to keeping it. Also implementing it into another (or new) stat would be more work than it's worth.

@IcyNinetales

I wouldn't mind it if it made more sense, but there is no skill involved, just mindless dumb luck.

I have seen more dodges in the last two days then I have in the months before that at the same level of grinding. I think the dodge rates heighten during event-like things. I swear they do. I missed five eliminates in a single ten battle streak in the Kelp Beds. That was annoying.

If we can't get rid of it can we at least change its mechanic to be "half damage" instead of "complete miss"? When we do a crit we get double damage and not a 1-hit-kill so it would make sense to balance it like that.

[/quote] I can get behind on this, if we can't get it removed, half-damage sounds good as well But honestly, it should be removed altogether. It adds nothing else to the coli.

@Ismaiel I'm guessing you still would lose the eliminate breath even with a half hit? But yeah it's so infuriating that dodos are so good at dodging. Every time I encounter the dodos they always dodge all over the place

Support.

It's more of an inconvenience than anything, and as OP says, there doesn't seem to be any skill or stats involved. Just luck, or bad luck.

I'd rather my dragons have to face-deck every attack from an enemy than deal with my own attacks missing up to five, six times in a row (yes, that has happened to me, and I quit the coli afterwards cos I was so steamed).

Especially with bosses -- which are just fricken combo-breakers and breath depleters with little reward. Them dodging four attacks in a row just seems downright cruel sometimes.

Anyway, yeah. Please get rid of dodge. It adds nothing to the Coli but frustration.

No support for getting rid of it entirely, otherwise Eliminate becomes even more broken than it already is. Without the downside of losing breath when it misses, players could just Eliminate everything in sight. (And I think that's the only reason why people dislike getting dodged in the first place.) This means it would be easier for players to bot the Coli since the random element of dodging would be removed. I know camping helps with botting, but players also want that to change too. I also don't want to lose the ability to dodge myself.

I did some preliminary testing, and I found dodge only happened about 3% of the time, which doesn't seem overwhelming to me. I get that dodge-combos are frustrating, so I can accept the staff altering things so dodge doesn't stack.

I'd also rather see a wider range of Coli stones so players don't get locked into Eliminate. Better builds for mages and tanks. A weaker move that has a 100% hit rate or a higher chance for a critical hit. Moves that increase stats, moves that heal status conditions. Moves that can target multiple enemies. Moves that only inflict status conditions. There's a ton of unexplored options.

If writers are supposed to "show not tell," why are we called "storytellers" and not "storyshow-ers"?

If dodge is removed, then, Eliminate should absolutely be changed, since it's going to become impossible to lose breath anymore, if no one dodges.

Let's not make the coli even more dependant on a single Battlestone that it already is.

Better, just release the AGI revamp aleready, staff.
