TOPIC | Deactivate Account
1 2 3 4 5 6 7
My sister just quit. We were talking and she said she'd love to delete her account. That way, if she ever decided to come back, she wouldn't be stuck with the same progen and could start again.

Deactivated accounts would have to disappear, open that username for use, and automatically exalt all dragons.

Support. I've always found it a bit weird that you can't delete your dragon game account - I mean, it could even be dangerous in some situations. What if someone needed to erase their online presence completely because of irl issues? Having an undeleteable petsite account is just a bit odd.

I support this with some provisos:

1. When you hit deactivate account, it sends an email to the account associated with your FR account.

2. Like most things of this kind, if you do not want to deactivate your account, then just ignore the email.

3. If you hit the deactivate account link in the emaill, your account is set for deletion.

4. This takes 6 months. In this six months, all but the announcements forum is barred from you.

5. Should you decide not to deactivate your account, you click a button that will cancel the countdown and go on like normal.

6. Should you then decide to deactivate your account, the process begins over again at 1.

7. At the end of the 6 month period, the account is deleted. All items and currency are deleted, and all dragons are exalted. The Username is then put up for grabs.

8. There is no way to know what accounts are set for deletion and what accounts aren't. IE, no 'This account is going to be deleted' messages.
These rules, I feel, are necessary to prevent abuse, not so much by the account holder ,but by siblings or anyone who might maliciously decide to deactivate your account.

I have heard stories of siblings who thought it was funny to mess with accounts, should they find a computer where it is still logged in.

The six months time is also so that users have a chance to change their mind, and so that should, for some reason, the account holder not be at a place to check on their accounts (such as jobs that take them out of internet range or they simply can't use internet for a browser game), they still have 6 months to save their accounts should they wish.

This would be amazing, as it would fix this problem; Overcrowding users, when users quite, their accounts stay activated and collect dust, booleans stay in inactive lairs, dragons starve, that perfect username that no one uses is taken.

@Jemadar

Good safety suggestions, and support. As it stands, the only way for a user to accomplish what OP is suggesting is break the rules, get banned, and then they're free to create a new account. Why encourage rule-breaking?

I support this, and perhaps banned accounts could be deleted to lighten the load as well. The only thing that would suck is that the items would be deleted as well.

As for safety precautions, 6 months seems like a bit much. 2 or 3 would suffice.

[/quote] As I said above, the reason why I chose six months is that many people have jobs where they might be out of internet range for months at a time. For some people, going six months with spotty access to internet or no access to internet isn't unusual. Plus, FR is a game that seems to be trying to build itself as a game where players are welcome back at any time, so I feel that a longer period of time to change your mind would be better.

Support with Jema's additions - even the 6 month one. We're not hurting for server space, we just opened reg. So that shouldn't have to be a factor.

It takes Twelve Years for one Imperial pair to produce a Primal-eyed offspring of a specific sex. Goal-based breeding is dead.
Support, but without the 6 month thing. If I want my presence online to be erased - as a person with paranoia - I'd like my account to be erased in a month MAX.

Most games that do that don't take over a week, even.
