TOPIC | Front page dragons

Would it be possible to limit the dragons that appear on the front page to only those with some energy? It's so exciting to see people's pretty and unusual dragons appear on the front page. But, it gets SO depressing to follow the link only to find that it is a zero-energy dragon that is stuck in a dead lair. It's heartbreaking!

Never put your faith in a Prince.
When you require a miracle,
trust in a Witch.
How does being low on energy make the dragon any less pretty or interesting?
How does being low on energy make the dragon any less pretty or interesting?
Why?

Does it really make a difference? Are they any less pretty because they have an empty energy bar? Does it somehow negate the effort that's gone into those well gened and well-dressed dragons..?

I never support this.

Half because it's either rooted in a weird emotional take on a picture of a dragon (like your reasoning -- "but they're starving and that's sad") and half because other people complain that they can't compliment the dragons because it's like shouting into the void if the owners are gone (and that just sounds like they only give compliments to stroke their own ego with a reply).

I just don't see why it's the massive issue some people make it out to be, honestly.

UK time. Sorry for timezone-related delays in responses. They/Them.
I don't support this for exactly what Greyjoy said, and because many users as well choose not to feed their dragons even when they are actively online. They shouldn't be disqualified from the front page feature for not feeding their dragons. In fact, feeding them isn't necessary for FR, which is why u are rewarded for doing it instead of punished for not- it's just encouraged by perks like the coli and breeding.

It would also take more specific coding, instead of it just choosing randomly from a pool of all unexalted dragons, it would have to be changed so that it only chooses from dragons with high energy. Which is completely pointless, again, for reasons already given

I feel exactly the same way as Greyjoy.

I *like* seeing dragons that are in inactive lairs as those tend to be older dragons, with weird combinations of colors and genes (and sometimes apparel). I often find combinations I would have never thought I would like by looking at the random dragon.

Besides, to me the random dragon isn't for users of FR to compliment other users (that is what Dragon Share is for), nor is it only for 'active' players. It is to show people who are interested in joining FR exactly what can be done with the main attraction of the site.

When this comes up, I am always thankful that FR didn't go the route of Neopets and give dragons expressions in relation to their 'mood' and general state. I still have not so fond memories of 'FEED/HEAL/PLAY WITH YOUR PETS!!! YOU ARE A HORRIBLE PERSON!!!!'.

Ditto all the above comments.

Also, just to make a point, I know a friend of mine who invested thousands of USD in this game to buy pretty G1s, gene them up, dress them in KS apparels and custom accents, and they are still very active in this game. BUT, they never feed their dragons. So on first glance at their lair you would think they are inactive with a full lair of 'hungry' or 'dead' dragons, whatever you want to call them. Does it really mean she's inactive? Quite the contrary she's as active as you and me.

If we are limiting the front page dragons to only 'active' lairs, you will still see those 'hungry' dragons with 0 energy, and you'll still think they are inactive or dead, or worse, that people would feel incline to comment on their page asking them to 'feed your dragons'. Which by itself is a harassment of sort. This is a suggestion that had came up a few times, and many of us, while we can understand your 'feeling' towards unfed dragons, just don't see how it will help this game to become better. You're also restricting those who enjoy seeing random dragons (fed or not) to either simply enjoy the beauties, or find inspirations. 'I don't like seeing unfed or hungry or dead dragons because they make me sad' is just as a selfish reason as any, as well as stopping those who actually want to see them.

Sorry no support. :(

How can you tell it's a dead lair anyway?

Not everyone feeds their dragons, because it's not mandatory to do so

You can go to dragon share forums or the auction house to see active random dragons :D

I don't believe a fix is needed right now.

However, it's something to consider for the future. Eventually the number of dragons on inactive accounts will vastly outnumber the active dragons. (Please note, this has nothing to do with starving. There are plenty of active players who don't feed their dragons.) So someday, 99 out of 100 dragons features on the front page will be from inactive accounts.

Having a dragon on the front page is just as much for the benefit of the owner of the featured dragon as it is for the viewer. It will be sad to see such a big part of site culture go. When that day comes, I hope the staff considers at least skewing the Random Dragon in favor of dragons from active accounts. (active here means "has logged on at least once in the past two weeks," the same measurement they use to determine the size of your Flight for Dom.)

It takes Twelve Years for one Imperial pair to produce a Primal-eyed offspring of a specific sex. Goal-based breeding is dead.

As Greyjoy said, does a dragon having 0 energy make it uglier? Does having an empty, gray energy bar make it look worse than when it has a full energy bar or a half-filled energy bar?

This idea just doesn't make sense. Besides, imagine seeing a three-digit derg come up. They would most likely be starving, but it would be cool to see that.
