TOPIC | Option to turn off prof. comments

ooh ye a long title

Anyway. Gonna get to the root of this quickly. I suggest we should be able to turn off profile comments, the main root of this being Roundsey and suggestions from Plague chat.
I do NOT want to wake up to a million congratz messages if I ever win the dragon. I don't think other people do either. People could mail you, but you can delete that. in BULK. Or just ignore it, with comments u cant.
Yes! Some people LIKE these messages! But this is OPTIONAL.
Some of these comments are also spiteful. Someone said "The winner didn't deserve the dragon", I do not know who nor do I want to expose them. People do not want this spite.

To put it simply, we should be able to turn off profile comments.

i don't see any actual downside to being able to disable profile comments. if you really need to contact someone, you can PM them directly

that's my opinion in a nutshell

As I said in the plague discord; yes, yes and yes.
There is no downside to this, people can message you if they need something and you can always choose to undo disabling comments if you'd like to.

I don't see a downside to this, so sure, why not.

I've been in support of this for a long time. Right now, profile comments occupy a weird space between public and private. Everyone can see the convo happening, but no one else can participate. That makes it a favored vehicle for people who like to passive-aggressively shame others for their playstyle. You can call someone else out without getting called out yourself.

I'm not even sure why we have them, except that "everyone else has them."

It takes Twelve Years for one Imperial pair to produce a Primal-eyed offspring of a specific sex. Goal-based breeding is dead.
Personally I am of the opinion that users should be able to limit who contacts them period, not just through profile comments, without having to block most of the site.

IE, you can turn pings, profile comments, PMs, etc.. to off, everyone, friends only, flight only. (admins and potentially mods of course can always contact you, no matter your settings)

While I support this whole heartedly, I also feel that PMs should also be able to be restricted, as it could be a problem when everyone starts PMing someone, and they miss an important PM due to the overflow of congratulations messages.

As Jemadar said, I have supported communication options for years. Players should be able to set profile comments, PMs, pings, friend requests, crossroad offers, and any other communications to Everyone, No One, Friendly Only, or Flight Only. Considering the harassment I and others endured, this really should have been put in place a long time ago.

EDIT: This would include laying the ground work, coding wise, for optional alerts too. Players could opt in and out of those spammy Baldwin alerts; players could choose to receive news alerts or not. Other site features could receive optional alerts. FR could finally make on site ping lists too.

Pings are disabled.

If writers are supposed to "show not tell," why are we called "storytellers" and not "storyshow-ers"?
I read this as professor comments and got confused for a moment lol

Full support! I actually get a bit anxious whenever I see I have a profile comment, so it'd be very nice to be able to turn them off

I fully support this also - if I ever won a Roundsey dragon I sure wouldn't want to wake up to a bunch of notifications being I already get so many per day!

I also support the ability to disable PMs, friend requests, and the like, as mentioned upthread.

Support for anything which gives users more control over who can contact them and where/how they can do it.
