After the lair re-vamp, I just kinda lost the desire to play, because I don't like how my lair looks anymore. So, I just stopped logging in. I thought today that maybe I'd give it another go. But, I'm broke and have no food. My dragons are all starving. I can't do coli to get food for them because they're starving. So, I'm just not coming back (yet) because starving dragons are too much of a pain to deal with.
There's this other breeding game called Lioden. It's not without its problems, but one thing it has right is that it rewards activity, but doesn't penalize inactivity. Flight Rising could take notes from that. They'd have me back again if there wasn't such a high bar to getting back into the game.
tl;dr: Reward activity, but don't penalize inactivity.

FR Already rewards activity.
Active players get more Gathering turns and a bit of both currencies every day. Inactive players (those who let their dragons starve) do not. Not getting this isn't a punishment since you can get food elsewhere (providing you can use the coliseum -- I cannot).
Lioden is different from FR in that is has a personal, account-based rollover rather than a site-wide one. FR would have to be entirely re-written to accommodate that sort of system and Lioden only has it because the lions there age and die whereas FR dragons don't. Furthermore, it would have to change the gathering system away from rewarding activity and dominance participation and gear it more towards the number of dragons people have which, let's face it, would annihilate the economy.
I see where you're coming from, but I can't agree.

UK time. Sorry for timezone-related delays in responses. They/Them.
Don't we already get a one-time hunger refill if we log out and our dragons' hunger drops to 0%? I'm sure that it's a thing, to enable long-time inactive players to jump right back in.

I don't think it is a one time hunger refill, but it is after something like 40 days of inactivity. (I think...)
No support.
While I can see where you are coming from, FR doesn't penalize inactivity. Yeah, dragons start starving and you lose the well fed bonus, but those are things that are minor considering everything.
1. Your dragons dont' die, so you don't have to log in and immediately feed them. You can take two or three days of gathering only to feed them.
2. The only things you can't do on site with starving dragons are breeding and coliseum. Everything else can be done with starving dragons, including earning money from the fairgrounds and trading post.
With those two points in mind, FR is actually pretty lenient about player activity. There isn't anything that must be done at rollover, anything (except the wellfed bonus) that resets if you miss a day (and the well fed bonus isn't lost in a day to my understanding) etc...

We're already rewarded for being active, like Greyjoy said. Consider yourself lucky that they don't delete inactive accounts, like other sites do.
If you have no interest in playing, put your dragons except one in hibernation den. That's what it's here for - you can even buy slots with gems if you don't have the willpower to do the item tasks.

I don't think I support this, as part of the reason for the hp bars is to encourage people to return to the site daily/frequently.
I wouldn't mind a few, 'emergency situations' to help returning players. For example, maybe the training grounds shouldn't require energy at all. That even starving dragons could enter it. Sure the food you get is incredibly small, but that would at least let you theoretically grind up enough food points, to restart your game.
Maybe a few other things as well, such as starving dragons can only collect food. (That egg or gene that might have otherwise dropped because of the RNG? You don't get that, they were too hungry to care about it. )

I don't think I would like this.
For one, this would punish players who dont' care about feeding their dragons.
So, it would be forcing a specific play style on players who want eggs, or genes. (I assume this would apply to gathering, as starving dragons cannot enter the coliseum. Unless this was in addition to being able to enter the training fields with starving dragons. if that was it, ignore this post...)

I feel like this is a 'different strokes for different folks' type thing. I don't feel like Lioden doesn't punish inactivity- sure, you can just not log in, and it won't punish you for that. But if you want to play at all on a given day, you need to have a lot of time to handle basic everyday feeding and all that. Whereas on Flight Rising, it seems to expect daily logins but you don't have to log in for more than a few minutes a day to handle everyday things. I find the couple minutes a day easier, but I know that's not everyone.

It is regarded as unwise to harvest claws of a kamaitachi. These weasels travel in family units, and the survivors are known to hunt collectors down.

There is a huge difference between being punished and not receiving a reward. If food were rare and hugely expensive it would be different but it is one of the most plentiful things in the game. It can be gotten via gathering, coli, flight food banks, the AH... so while it might take a few days to gather enough to get back into the coli it can easily be done and then you are on your way to food and riches once again.

Stuff will one day go here.
@Genevra I noticed that you're in Nature Flight, if you need food you can visit the Nature Flight food bank thread and I'm sure they will help you. :)
Also I just want to add that inactivity shouldn't be rewarded, I'm sorry. Only people actually playing the game should get rewards. FR only penalises you with starving dergs, your dragons don't die like on some other sites, so I consider this a good thing. I used to play Lioden until I found out lions age and die and well I just did not like the idea. No support from me.
