TOPIC | Eye type work around
Completely spitballing here, it's almost not a suggestion because I'm not sure if this would even work well enough to be an acceptable mode of obtaining eyes but still...

What if there was a somewhat expensive way to remove the eye type off of a dragon and bottle it so that you could add what might be an exclusive eye type that may only be obtainable to newly bred dragons, onto pre existing dragons.

The basic idea is that you would be removing the eye type off of one dragon, bottling it, and could then apply it to another dragon to replace their eye type with the bottled one.

Example:
Say I have a dragon named Bob and he has uncommon eyes.

Then I hatch a dragon who has facted. That's just rad because I'd love bob to have faceted. I pay whatever amount for a scroll or vial that I can then apply to the new hatchling. This action bottles the hatchling's faceted eyes and randomizes their new eyes, leaving the hatchling with common eyes and leaving me with a bottled pair of faceted eyes I can then apply to Bob. (Or maybe the hatchling is left with a new eye type. eyeless, cloudy, pupil less, soulless, lost. lol idk)

Restrictions of this item?
-How to obtain these scrolls/vials of visible mobility or whatever
-Can this bottle all kind of eyes? Even ones previously obtainable by a vial?
-*Maybe you can only use this on hatchlings you hatch yourself, meaning the window that shows you what hatchlings you just hatched, also gives an option to buy and/or use a scroll to immediately bottle one (selectable) eye type of the hatchlings.
-Can or cannot be resold/traded?
-more to be added

*This is personally my favorite idea because you have to rely on your own work (breeding) to get what you want and no matter how much money you have to do it yourself. Downsides however include: bringing more dragons into the game that you know you'll just use for eyes so, more fodder essentially. And you're still left at the mercy of RNG and obtaining that eye type may take weeks, or years depending on how RNG wants to treat you.

It may be worth mentioning I don't have much against the way the eyes work anymore. I personally enjoy the excitement of hatching different eyes, though I also understand the frustrations some have with the unattainability of new eyes for existing dragons.

Moreover I had a brainblast and thought I'd share in case it helped. All input is appreciated.

Interesting idea!

This could possibly work within the lore already established for why these new eye types are appearing, particularly the "natural" ones.

Since BotE seems to be suggesting that these new eyes are the result of exposure to new magics or absorption of greater amounts of elemental magic, perhaps that magic could be transferred or "bottled".

I would prefer, however, that eye types and their resulting vials are divided by element. So, for example, in order to get faceted put on a Lightning dragon of yours, you have to buy another Lightning dragon with faceted, not just any faceted dragon. This way, the market for dragons with desirable eye types (even uglier ones) can be maintained but still allows for players to get rarer eye types on dragons they desire. Players who breed frequently can be rewarded for their efforts by selling dragons with harder to get or highly marketable eye types.

And making it a Gem Marketplace item would bring in money for the site.

I like this suggestion, along with Twizz's suggestion to keep the eyes element-bound.

Seeing as scattersights are essentially unattainable and will be even more so as time goes on, there should be a second way to give rarer eye types to older dragons. (Or, if this is too easily abused, just bring scattersights back :))

That is... a damn good idea. Though I'd do it slightly differently:
  • Eye bottles are only element bound. They can be applied (both taken types and given) to any dragon so long as they're both the same element.
  • They're only obtained through exalting, the way you can sometimes get gems. Because the dragons can give you extra magic from their god as per being exalted. But they'll obviously only give you the corresponding bottle - I'd only get Nature magic bottles, for example.
  • They should be AH-able, so we can obtain the other elements. However, only blank magic bottles are AH-able - if it's holding an eye type, it's accountbound.

So I can exalt any dragon and they'd give me a Nature magic bottle, and I can scoop up a Nature primal from dragon A and give it to dragon B. If dragon B has a not-common eye type like rare, then dragon B gets the primal that was in the bottle and now I have a bottle with Rare in it. If I give that rare to dragon C who has multigaze, then it gets the rare and the multigaze goes into the bottle. If I give that multigaze to dragon D who has common, then dragon D gets the multigaze and the bottle disappears.
Effectively, I can swap until I pass the eyes onto a common dragon, after which the bottle disappears for good. This way if you get a multigaze when you want a primal, well, now you can hold onto that multigaze until you can pass a primal onto it.

Now that would solve literally everyone's problems.

@TheGodOfStories There's an old thread about transfering eye types which is rather well thought out. This could be worth checking out for you as well.
