TOPIC | New colour wheel for ancients
1 2 3 4
I propose the new ancient breeds should get an entirely different colour wheel than the modern breeds. Here are some pros/issues it would solve

- It's essential the modern and ancient breeds are properly separated, if they are too similar people will be bitter they cannot put apparel on ancient breeds or they cannot use ancient breeds on modern dragons. Ancient only genes are a good start but a new colour wheel would also help a great deal and making ancient dragons their own thing rather than 'limited modern breeds'

- A new colour wheel would make it harder for people to get upset about ancient only breeds, since they would not be able to scry those genes in the colours of their modern dragon.

- Many people have supported a colour wheel expansion and submitted their own ideas for colours. A colourwheel expansion for modern breeds would cause some chaos as breeding pairs would be effected and I imagine it would upset a lot of people. However ancient breeds negate this, as they are a new 'species' and a blank slate they can have new colours without messing up old dragons.

- new colourwheel would be add extra excitement to the update

That's about all I can think of right now. I kind of doubt mods will do this, seeing how close we are to the anniversary, but I think it'd really help ancient breeds stand out and stop a lot of comparison and 'why can't modern breeds have this?'

Addressing the 'I don't features to be locked out for modern breeds'

As we've seen, ancients will already have unique genes that won't be available for modern breeds. The solution is not to give modern breeds those genes because, for one, some genes would not be able to be used in modern genes (like linebreaking ones) so it'd be very much pick-and-choose which would anger a lot of people. And two, this would just make ancient dragons a worse version of modern dragons. They'd just be modern dragons but with no apparel, and very few genes.

WE HAVE SEEN THAT STAFF DO NOT CARE ABOUT INCLUSIVENESS FOR OLD DRAGONS, with the addition of goat eyes. And the addition of ancient exclusive genes.

Ancients need to have their own things. They need unique features which means yes, modern breeds couldn't get them. It's the direction FR wants to go in and if they do it halfway ancients will just be worse versions of modern dragons.

I would feel like this would cause MORE problems then anything else.

I'm already on edge about the Ancients getting a gene that would be perfect for a character/dragon while the ancient itself is not. I do not want to also now feel that disappointment when I am now locked out of a color that would look amazing on any one of the 14 already existing breeds (and any that come after it)

The eye-update was one thing but many overlooked it because eyes are such a small part of many dragons. Even then it's STILL a sore spot for many members (on both sides) almost a full year later and many have not stopped being vocal.

Doing that again with something MUCH more substantial than eyes would cause a chaos that I do not think would end well for anyone.

I mean it would prove beyond a shadow of a doubt what direction FR wants to take but it certainly wouldn't make for a pleasant anniversary, I don't think.

As it stands, Ancients are separated enough. Completely almost for everything besides color and eye type. Making them absolutely 100% different doesn't really seem like the intended outcome. To me the intended effect was just to get dragons out that didn't touch the backlog - which separating them completely, goes well past.

No support... due to a fundamental massive issue with this.

You can breedchange modern dragons to ancients and vice versa. If they have a different colour wheel, then either there's got to be some complicated way of translating modern colours into ancient and back again (which could easily result in previously good colours now clashing) or every breed scroll is going to have to scatter the colours as well.

I also don't think that they need this separation, and given they're designed to allow faster extra dragon releases it does not make sense to make the process more complicated for staff.

I would not like to see this, personally. For those of us who won't have the lairspace to have a bunch of ancient breeding pairs, the only way we'll get good dragons of those breeds with colors we like while ancients are still new is by breed changing a modern dragon with good colors.

I would really hate for that to be impossible.

NO. NO NO NO. NO.

Getting features locked for modern breeds was already silly when it was genes, it's even WORSE if it's colors, and I would be legitimately PEEVED because these colors would become impossible to get in some way

Gotta think of examples.

Like, I get a pair of AncientBanana Dragons and breed them until I get a Blueberry-Blueberry-Powder XXY dragon, and I change my XXY into a Nocturne because Nocturne are where it's at.

Well, I can't breed more Blueberry Blueberry Powder because my Nocturne is a modern breed ooooops.

Don't penalize people for owning certains breeds. Seriously, the gene idea was already not that great, let's not make it worse.

Colors are also not a huge thing on the backlog, the only problem there is existing breeding pairs, it's not a matter of "it's too hard to do". They're absolutely a thing that should be all or nothing, not just "some breeds get this and some get that"

i dont think this should be implemented, since staff said you can breedchange moderns to ancients and vice versa, so there would be a conflict if you were to change an ancient with ancient-only colors to a modern breed

No, since changing from ancient breeds to modern breeds is an established thing, colours should carry over. Whats the point in changing my Beige/Stone/Beige gal into a new breed if she won't be Beige/Stone/Beige? The scrolls would be worthless when I might as well just hatch a new egg.

And this will mean people will be upset about not getting to have colors AND genes on their modern dragons... ie, people will be twice as likely to be upset in my opinion. No support.

No support. I'm already tired of ancient dragons being put on a pedestal and they're not even out yet. I'm tired of the fear of getting my existing dragons cut out of genes, eyes, breeds, and everything else associated with dragons. I DON'T want ancient dragons to be more exclusive. I want them to be more inclusive. TBH, if this is the way FR is going, there's no way they can redeem themselves in my eyes.

If writers are supposed to "show not tell," why are we called "storytellers" and not "storyshow-ers"?
No support. for all reasons listed. besides, i'm pretty sure color existed back in the ancient times
