I've seen a lot of people supporting the idea of Lair Tab Descriptions. Even though I fully approve of it and I'd love to see it in game, here's another suggestion that might solve some other problems! ----- Journals with Lore in your Lair I'm suggesting adding so-called Lore Placeholders: buttons similar to regular boxes with dragons, but when clicked, they would lead you to a text page ("Journal") analogous to a forum post. Those Placeholders can be decorated like Vistas, but I'd assume they would be called something else ("Themes", maybe?). Those Themes would also have a few alterations or at least two mirrored versions of themselves, I'd imagine. Here're two different exampled of a Training Fields Theme: Please open the images in a new tab if you can't see them! The first mockup is a bit more simplistic, the other has some extra information: tags and views. Basically, those would be mini-forum posts that are a little bit prettier. they can contain the same amount of symbols and they can be customized like dragon descriptions/forum posts. In Journals' settings, you can change the name (freely), tags (by ticking the suitable ones) and the Theme of the Journal (along with its variations or left/right orientation). Journal slots can be purchased kind of like HD slots: with simple turn-in tasks or with some treasure (no gems!). Maybe that would also be the way to unlock different themes for your Journals. For example, a stack of food from Training Fields' monsters would give you a Training Fields Theme. Treasure-wise, I'd say they should cost somewhat like Tabs. Another great suggestion:
Would also consider a toggle on/off button or a hidden mode for pages in progress! Journals with Lore in your Lair

I'm suggesting adding so-called Lore Placeholders: buttons similar to regular boxes with dragons, but when clicked, they would lead you to a text page ("Journal") analogous to a forum post. Those Placeholders can be decorated like Vistas, but I'd assume they would be called something else ("Themes", maybe?). Those Themes would also have a few alterations or at least two mirrored versions of themselves, I'd imagine. Here're two different exampled of a Training Fields Theme:

Please open the images in a new tab if you can't see them!

The first mockup is a bit more simplistic, the other has some extra information: tags and views. Here's how the Journals would look like when you click on them:

There're a bit more details about them on the image, too.

Pros and Cons

This system would allow or fix quite a few things:
  • No more "Personal" Forum threads and "Dragon-Placeholders". There will be no need to create forum posts for wishlists and litter dragons' bios with badges.
  • They are very versatile. Have a story about a dragon? Put it right near it. Have a tab description? Slap it in the first slot of said tab. Wanna have clan's lore IN your clan? Make a "Lore" Tab with a lot of Journals in it!
  • Journals will not litter the Tab's look. Tab descriptions have to be extremely limited and simple if you don't want them to take up half a page and not be cluttered or overwhelming. Journals will fit great with regular dragon slots while still slightly standing out with their coloring.
  • Always in one place. Forum posts can get lost if you didn't save them anywhere and they're deep down in your post history. Journals are always in your lair, waiting for you!
  • Another treasure sink! Always good c: Plus, turn-in tasks are fun and rewarding if they're not too hard!
  • Customization. You will now be able to add decorations to your lair to support the aesthetics. You can also use Journals as placeholders to separate some dragons from others in one Tab or to center them on the page. Overall, they would allow to customize your lair to create absolutely brand new, clean and polished looks!
  • Don't like it? Don't use it! This update would not change any of the existing mechanics. It would not mess with existing "Personal" Forum Threads or Clan/Dragon Descriptions, nor would it add any empty boxes to Lair Tabs or Slots. If you don't want to use them, your Lair would stay untouched.
  • As SuddenlyJoxar has already mentioned, you can potentially reuse existing code to implement this mechanic. It doesn't have to be built from scratch.

The disadvantages of journals:
  • A whole new system to code. That's... hard.
  • Why use paid slots for lore if you can make free Forum Posts?
  • Harder to moderate.

No support for a view count.

I really like this idea! I might get into writing lore if something like this was added :)

Love this! It's got great potential, and the mock-ups look very nice, something along those lines -using art from existing site elements -either exactly the same or slight adjustments would reduce the artwork needed to implement it too.
As for being harder to moderate, I think vihuff has a point, at the very least with a report/flag button on them the same way forum posts have if there's something inappropriate there's an easy way for someone to call attention to it. Then it would basically boil down to the same situation as we currently have. But we'd get a better more centralized and cohesive system for saving information about lairs, and dragons, and lore, and what have you.

About the only thing for me is if there's a view count or anything of that sort I'd prefer it to be optional and ideally not still keep track while it's turned off. That's not something I'd want to know about and I'd rather not have it saving that info somewhere where I might see it at some point (ie. no temptation to turn it on to check and see #) if I've got it turned off. But that's just me, maybe other people would feel differently.

Big support! Clean, efficient, and well thought out. I like that you can have zero, a few, or even a ton if you really wanted to. It's flexible to the needs of each player, and it's another opportunity for rich players to flex (jk, but also...).

And any opportunity for players to click onto a new page is good for the site, right? This seems more profitable than adding a description at the top of each lair tab.

I'm excited to see more feedback from others and see how the idea develops. It looks really promising!

I like this idea!
Each of my lair tabs are a different geographical location, so it would be great to have lore for each tucked away in each tab without burning through my lair space quickly and the potential for vista-style themes in them would make it so much easier to express the different aesthetics in the different areas of my lair.

While I get that it might be an interesting challenge to code (especially after they revamped the lair so recently) it sounds like something where a lot of existing code could possibly be recycled (but I haven't hobby coded myself in years so take this statement with a grain of salt.

Basically, if they were to do this, I'd probably freak out, throw something at a wall from sheer impulsive joy, and write so much lore I'd probably be at risk of a repetitive strain injury.
