I never use these things
some Questions for other users whether for or against.
  1. Have you ever tweeted or Liked a FR dragon from the profile page?
  2. Do you know anyone that has? (not counting, staff)
  3. if ur staff have you ?
  4. Did you find out about FR from Facebook or twitter?

Here is (my)
list of reasons:
  • these buttons exist under the assumption that literally every single FR user also has a Facebook and Twitter.
    Not everyone is that integrated.
  • There are dozens of other social medias, in this time and age of choice, its a bit of a shot in the dark that someone uses either one or both at all.
  • It clutters the profile page of dragons.
  • The space could be utilized for something more FR focused like click to copy buttons or avatar generate code.
  • it can lead to users getting personal information exposed to FR
like their name school or birthday or anything they might post or make available to twitter or facebook doesnt mean they want it on or known by users of FR and this kind of thing makes finding that stuff out easy.

If someone did this to another FR user on FB or Twitter it would be entirely out of FR's control.
  • It is just another way for these social media giants (twitter, facebook) to target people on a small independent 3rd party website (like FlightRising or legit any other website these buttons exist on,) to direct people away or back to their platform (gotta get more viewers for those advertisers, Who cares who they are taking them from even if its a little guy like FR.)
  • Despite being really common social media platforms Facebook and Twitter both Host some seriously toxic and cruel and sexually charged content compared to what is allowed on FR.

List of reason it should be kept:
  • Users really enjoy being able to see likes on their dragons that genuinely have likes.
  • Flightrising has some kind of social Media presence and this makes it easier for people to put their dragon on the platform they are present on
  • it is a permanent feature for potential exposure for FR on every single dragon (altho all exposure I have seen for FR is when it is talked about in the art community and posted about in avatar/pet forum communities)
  • IF More than 2/3rds of the website users use the feature.

Other suggestions:
  • Replace the Facebook Like with a Flight Rising Like function
  • smaller versions of the social media buttons
  • a single Universal Button for a post code that can be posted on any social media. Not only Twitter and FB
  • optionally hide them entirely from your dragons in your lair from a site setting [without 3rd party applications like an adblock]
A dragon dressed up as bubbles and fish that has a Bio full of lesser known tips and tricks to Flight Rising
“I never use these things” is not a valid reason to have something removed from the entire site. I have never liked someone’s dragon, but I do have several dragons who have received likes.
Just because you don’t use something doesn’t mean other people don’t use it.

(It’s also currently our only way to “like” dragons, so... there’s that.)
Onto your reasons

“I dont care about Facebook (Much Bias cuz only the middle aged ppl in my fam even use fb still)
Every single individual dragon does not need a fb like button.
I dont have twitter.”
All of those are personal reasons/opinions.

“It clutters the profile page of dragons.”
Again, a personal opinion.

“The space could be utilized for something more FR focused like click to copy buttons or avatar generate code.”
Or those could go where the rest of the codes are- in the button specifically designated for that type of thing.

“it can lead to users getting personal information exposed to FR
like their name school or birthday or anything they might post or make available to twitter or facebook doesnt mean they want it on or known by users of FR and this kind of thing makes finding that stuff out easy.”
How, exactly...? You do realize nobody can see who likes/tweets your dragons right...? (And if they didn’t want to risk that kind of stuff being known they wouldn’t use FB to do things on other sites. I feel like that’s pretty obvious.)

“It is just another way for these social media giants (twitter, facebook) to target people on a small independent 3rd party website (like FlightRising or legit any other website these buttons exist on,) to direct people away or back to their platform (gotta get more viewers for those advertisers, Who cares who they are taking them from even if its a little guy like FR.)”
It doesn’t fully redirect you to either one though? I just went and tested it- both take you to a page that only contains the Twitter text box or a “done” button in the case of FB. Completing either one immediately takes you back to FR.

“Despite being really common social media platforms Facebook and Twitter both Host some seriously toxic and cruel and sexually charged content compared to what is allowed on FR”
See above answer. Nothing forces you to stay there (FR seems to actively encourage you to immediately come back, anyways) and if people even have a FB/twitter account they likely already know about all that.

Eh, just because you don't like something isn't really a reason to remove it from the site. Some people do use those buttons, and not everyone dislikes Twitter and FB. FR has a presence on both sites, so it's not like there isn't a connection there. Nothing is making you use those sites, or use the cross-site functions, so it's not like you can't play the game without them. I don't see how this is an actual problem.

I personally have never used these buttons but just because I haven't doesn't necessarily mean others don't. It's pretty standard for social sites to have share buttons. Pretty much every app ever does. When people do decide to share on Twitter and Facebook, it also brings more attention to FR through the more popular media sites. It's better just to ignore it, though I understand what you're saying.

@Shinyumbreon
Changed personal reasons you pointed out to: these buttons exist under the assumption that literally every single FR user also has a Facebook and Twitter.

As for, being able to find someone...
it could be as easy as a google reverse image search and the name of the dragon.

there are many methods to find someone through posts and names. and I wont detail them because that kind of thing is wrong.

I like the buttons :D I've used them a few times
I think you might be overthinking the buttons. There's no way to access someone's personal information by clicking on them or else they wouldn't be there. FR relies on social media for a lot (they have a twitter and tumblr account they use often, it doesn't mean they endorse everything on it lol). If someone led you to believe that you have to click on the buttons, they were wrong, you can ignore them :D I believe you can even use adblock to block the buttons specifically (without blocking ads) if you're accidentally clicking on them too much
All of those are personal reasons/opinions.
Regarding the population age of social media, actually, that's not an opinion. It was framed that way, but the average age of a Facebook user is something like 40 years old. Whether that's relevant or not? I mean, I'm sure we have plenty of users the same age around here. I sure don't. But that doesn't mean someone else doesn't. I'm actually pretty sure that FR itself has stats on how often those buttons are getting clicked. It's not a bad idea if they aren't getting clicked. I'd rather there be an FR-based like system if they want to have likes. More people could use it that way, because then you wouldn't be required to have a facebook to like a dragon. But the twitter share, I think, that definitely could stay around. Maybe even the fb like, but maybe both smaller and together to make way for an FR like? I guess. I have no idea.

I kinda like seeing when my dragons get FB likes, so I'd be a little sad if they removed the feature.

I use these sometimes, and I know others who do. I don't see any valid reason to remove them besides someone not liking the look, which I don't think is a fair reason to take them from people who like them.
