TOPIC | Change the name of the golems

In the light of the wendigo name change, can the names of the golems also be changed, please?

They are a part of the Jewish faith, if they are going to account for Native American players it'd be great if the staff could do the same for their Jewish users!

I am already kinda upset they have to change the name of my beloved Wendigo, so no to anymore name changes.
(Also the Leshy is my families patreon, which makes it even more sad it got renamed)

Or else, i as a european, would have the right to say No to showing Western Dragons as they destroyed villages and cities and killed many people in legends and myths and that should not be supported on a kid friendly site >:v

So the whole Golem Workshop would need to be changed? That's a taller order than a single familiar.

Also, my understanding is that the Jewish people and the Native Americans reacted to near-total genocide and cultural erasure very differently. Judaism reacted by opening up and accepting converts, while the Native Americans became a closed culture and religion.

Obviously a basic level of respect is still asked for, but my understanding is that they don't ask you to treat golems and other clearly-mythological figures as real. Maybe it's because I'm from a liberal area in the United States, but the Jewish folks I know are significantly less literal-minded than (for example) evangelical Christians. But I also know that due in part to the diaspora, there are a metric crap-ton of ways to practice Judaism. If there's a sect out there that considers Golems to be so incredibly sacred, I'd probably never know about it.

(Also, the Golems on FR are cats and horses so...)

It takes Twelve Years for one Imperial pair to produce a Primal-eyed offspring of a specific sex. Goal-based breeding is dead.
Finding a way to be respectful to cultures while maintaining a game can be difficult. There are things that need to be addressed around the concerns of any culture and I am not sure where the line on that occurs. While knowing the historical reference of a certain word it has also become a part of pop culture. At what point does a word or name become more than its origination?

When I first saw the name of our holiday in April was Wavecrest Saturnalia I kind of gigglesnorted because it was the wrong time of year and of completely different meaning. The only reason I would likely support that being changed is that people have been so offended that it causes a rift between those who use the full name and those who have dropped the Saturnalia when referring to it.

I believe FR needs to be respectful of cultures and how they are represented but there is a line and I am just not sure where it lies. It is as if we cannot ignore a culture nor can it be represented without offending someone.

Rather than one off changes I would actually prefer a singular task where they review items that have been considered offensive and make one significant change to naming etc. then moving forward each thing could be considered with cultural viewpoints in mind.

I do understand that things will be perceived as offensive by some people but not others and that is something both Devs and players need to understand. No world is perfect and Sornieth is no exception.

Stuff will one day go here.
Just delete the Golem Workshop.

Wait, has anyone actually legitimately complained about the familiars and the Coli venue having “golem” in their names before? I know several people had complained about the newly-named pronghorn before, but I’ve never seen anyone say anything about the golems besides when that thread about the pronghorn/wendigo came up and got popular

Personally, and I have been thinking about this because it has been hard for me to articulate it, I feel that if a creature is part of an actual religion (not just mythology, but figures prominently in their religion) then it would be best to change the names.

Not only would it avoid accidentally having another Pronghorn incident, but it would also give FR a more unique feel to it.

The only difficulty would be is determining what creatures are part of actual religions and what are just part of mythology of that culture.
