TOPIC | Easier accent and skin re-submission
Hello all!

I'm an accent and skin maker, and one of the problems I've run into is having a skin submitted, accepted, and then having to wait 5-7 more days for another order of an accent / skin. It's just a hassle, and for myself anxiety inducing since I don't want to be accused of trading on bad faith when I am simply awaiting an order.

A proposed solution is to add another tab on the 'Custom Skins' page for accepted skins, so you can select the approved skin and your blueprints, and instantly receive your order instead of entirely resubmitting it. This would help make the process smoother for those who approve submitted skins since it would separate new skins and approved ones, and it would be a huge quality of life change for artists awaiting their orders.

My apologies if this is also something which is currently in progress or if there have been previous threads regarding the topic!

I believe the reason that they cannot auto-accept previously accepted skins is that sometimes things do get missed in the accepting process that should not be allowed, or rules are updated, and they cannot grandfather everything in. It is already somewhat more streamlined thanks to the March 5th update;
It is now no longer necessary to reupload art when ordering additional prints of previously approved custom skins.
Based on experiences on Aywas, a pet site where you can submit custom pets, "grandfathering" things always leads to problems, whether it be someone that is accusatory and defensive regarding them (how come that recent design got through but mine didn't?), or things are inconsistently grandfathered (two admins look over the design; one judges it at 29% coverage, another at 31%. On Aywas, this would mean a different item is needed to submit depending on which one is considered for grandfathering). For example, I believe that there was a user who did "Eliminate" accents that were accepted, but now break the more strictly defined gore rules and can no longer be reprinted. I could be wrong on this, but I recall someone mentioning it; I don't recall if it was merely theorizing as to why the accents were no longer being produced, or if it was a factual statement.

@SeaCrest

Thats understandable. I just wish there was some form of middle ground, I have been waiting nearly a week for a second run of an accent which doesn't break any of the rules (no gore, it's not too dark, lineart + shading is kept in tact, etc) and it just seems a bit much.

I wonder if they could update it in a way that re-submission of accents is mandatory after rules have been updated / changed or every 3 months or so? That might help alleviate the wait time.

For sure, I was just raising the point because from what I understand that is the primary reason everything still has to be checked.

There is a feature on Aywas where you can get official rulings on designs prior to submitting them; I wonder if something similar could be implemented here. If you have a link to your check, with its ruling, those in charge of handling the approvals can accept without rechecking. This places less strain on the approvers, since ideally most people would check their skins and accents prior to submitting them and thereby removing a lot of the pressure on the approvers to process the skins but also to communicate the issues with any rejected skins, but would require the training of more skin and accent approvers, since they're very parallel structures. With only two items to submit skins, rather than the dozens that Aywas has, there's less of a need for the check to tell you which item you need to use, too, so it could be that this doesn't save any time. On the other hand, if checks expired every six months or so, perhaps, or after rule changes, as you suggest, then it would make more sense to get a check first before resubmitting.

Then again, a lot of the problem on Aywas was that checks ended up taking just as long as the customs queue itself, so the balance was never quite there.

If it were possible I would like it :D

If it were not possible... I would love to know why, I'm sure I would understand, but this would be such a nice addition that the absence of it really confuses me. I feel like I'm overlooking something. The most reasonable explanation is the one above. But if that were the reason, I feel like the staff would let is know since there would be no reason not to :b

@SeaCrest completely agree. Hopefully if FR ever ups its staff or has more volunteer positions open then pre-submission would be possible. On that note; I think a thread similar to the 'Skin and Accent problems' where people can ask mods if their skins / accents / etc are okay to submit would be quite nice; might have less file hassle for the mods too.

@Vaveny same! Wish they would clear it up, would cause less confusion and frustration on my end at least.
