I am all for the new apparel revamps and updating the art onsite to look consistent. However, I do not like the lineart on all of the major pieces are completely changed. The vest and leg apparel still look fine. However, I think what is throwing people off is how different the other pieces are.
Different is not necessarily bad, but making the lineart so drastically different will always result in people prefering the original shape and people who are annoyed at clipping and layering issues that were not found in the original set.
I think the best way to move forward would be, whenever a set of apparel is about to be revamp, to keep a majority of the lineart the same, maybe with some minor changes to improve consistency across breeds. The main update would be to the shading and saturation of colors to betetr match the style of the site.
The color palette of the new apparel should definitely be kept close to the old, however. An art revamp is supposed to update the old, not throw out the old to completely replace it with something new. I think that is what is missing with this apparel update, a commitment to the old "feel" of the apparel in terms of shape and palette.
Making a "legacy" set and a new set would only increase the art strain on the staff, and that is very much not a good thing.
TLDR: Revamps good, but don't make drastic lineart changes.

SUPPORT!
A revamp should be updating the quality, not changing the entire look of the piece! The wings tbh are the most drastically changed thing, if they’d have kept to the same shape then the update would’ve been so much less jarring.
I myself would’ve been a lot less frustrated if it had kept the same feel.

I dunno if it's really less work, but it seems like just updating line thickness/shading/etc would be a lot easier on the artists than completely redrawing apparel that already exists. They're basically having to do the work twice.

I agree. From what I gathered, some color sets lacked the feathered piece entirely, and had armor instead? So while I agree with their decision to add feathers to all of them and make armor pieces separate for all as well, I feel like they should've stuck to the existing armor art more closely. I'm not passionate about this set, but I can see that the changes certainly didn't work for some, and I don't agree with the sentiment of drastically changing something set in stone, especially considering the extra work and the not-so-good user reviews on them!

This sounds like a good compromise between updating art and not "ruining" it for players who are attached to its current look. Update the lineart, form consistency, and whatever real errors were present, and nothing else.

Nobody wants to tell you why discipline is so important. Discipline is the strongest form of self-love. It is ignoring current pleasures for bigger rewards to come. It's loving yourself enough to give yourself everything you've ever wanted.
I agree. With how big the changes are in some things (roundhorns, armor, wings, eyes), just release a second set. Revamps should just be fixing art errors and shading and whatnot--not replacing the entire aesthetic with something very different.

If writers are supposed to "show not tell," why are we called "storytellers" and not "storyshow-ers"?
Support. I also want to say I liked the direction of adding a new piece to the set rather than fully removing a certain version of the apparel, although I would have preferred it follow the old wing 'armour' more closely (for the sake of people already using it in outfits, not for me personally.)

please ping me to get my attention!
YES YESS YES oh my god I can't support this enough.
Like, it shouldn't be too hard to just plop the old art onto its own item, since they already have it made, right?

I’m not sure if you think we’re discussing “legacy” sets or not, but this thread is more about keeping the general item the same with the update, no massive change in shape.
The idea is, a revamp is improving the art, not changing items.

Very support, I think I said this in the official thread too. Just re-line and re-color, design some new pieces for the armor/wing split. I thought the issue with old apparel is that the lines looked strange for some things, like the journeymans satchels, and made them not work with other apparel, and the logical solution to that seems to be to just... update the lines. You can't upset anyone if you're just making the lines more crisp.
