Breeding Quests Introduce a new NPC who will give you breeding quests. I am going to call this NPC Gestar the Geneticist. He has been researching genes and occasionally dabbling on the side about how exactly the gene scrolls work. He will give you several quests to choose from. Once you choose a quest, there is no time limit to complete it in. If you don’t think you can complete it you can cancel it and come back the next day for another set of quests to choose from. After completing a quest you can come back the next day for another quest. Quests would be range in difficulty with harder quests give better rewards. Potentially you could allow players to choose multiple quests, each of differing difficulty. Examples of quests are listed below. It's up the the admins on how exactly to implement this if they were going to do so, but personally I feel that for a dragon to qualify for the quest, it should be one that was bred in your clan. Personally I think the geneticist would take the dragon in as a lab assistant (thus removing it from circulation) but that will be up to the admins. If Gestar takes the dragon; then the dragon's page would be similar to the exalt page except stating that it's a lab assistant.

I need a freckled dragon to examine
A dragon with mulberry primary and swamp secondary would be quite helpful
If only I knew a pearlcatcher with gembond
I'd love to meet a snapper with black poison''
I would like to investigate a goat eyed dragon
Rewards would vary on the quest's difficulty but would essentially be:

Treasure, amount dependent on the difficultly (but along the levels you'd get for exalting) possibly also a chance at a gem or two
A few random items
And depending on what route the admins decided on either a chance for a gene token OR a very rare chance at a scroll drop
Gene Tokens - you’d have a 1:4 chance of getting one for an easy quest, a 1:2 chance for a moderate quest and a guaranteed Gene Token for a difficult quest. You would be able to trade a certain number of Gene Tokens in for a chance for one of the dragons in your lair to be a test subject for Gestar with his experimental scroll. The scroll could either be an item in your hoard (or my preference something you'd have to select the dragon from via Gestar) The effects of the scroll are random. After using the scroll you'd have to earn the privilege to use it again. Some effect ideas are:

It could result in nothing at all
A resetting or wiping of the cooldown (Ie dragon is put on a breeding cooldown or an existing breeding cooldown is removed)
A random color change for one of the dragon's slots
A change in one of the dragon's size stats (Length, Wingspan, Width)
A change in eye type (Among the natural eye types, weighted as they are when bred)
A mutation apparel drop (much like the scar apparel that drops in the coli).
Gene/Breed Change (limited to treasure marketplace and Geneticist exclusive genes/breed only). The exclusive genes/breed could be then bred like normal--just the only way to initially get them would be through the geneticist
If the Gene Token route wasn't taken there could be a very rare chance at a gene or breed change scroll drop (less than 1%). If the percentage is too high it could negatively affect the gene sales market. One way around that would be only have Geneticist exclusive scrolls drop which would be my preference. If scroll drops are decided instead of gene tokens the scrolls should probably be clan-bound. Mutation apparel drops could also happen. EDIT: After the eyepocalypse, the gene token/experimental scroll route as the only way to get exclusive genes would probably not be the best route to go so the route for a rare change of a scroll drop would be the best thing Alternatively Gene Tokens could still be a thing, but instead of being used to access a scroll that does random effects, Gene Tokens could be used to purchase exclusive scrolls, vials and apparel from Gestar (this might be a way to introduce natural eye type vials). Possibly even keep the idea a random effect scroll, with access to the feature exclusive genes/breeds but still allow players to be able to purchase the exclusive genes/breeds There could also be new breeding achievements added that can be earned through this mechanism. (Umbra and Story suggested this idea) A few examples of achievements that could be possible:

Complete x Number of Quests [would allow for levels of achievements; could be possibly divided into difficulty of quests as well as number]
LabRat - Use the experimental scroll [again possibly add levels according to number of times used]
Geneticist Exclusive Gene/Breed Achievements
This idea would be a good way to introduce new uncommon/limited genes and breeds through Geneticist exclusive genes/breeds/eyes

 • I need a freckled dragon to examine
 • A dragon with mulberry primary and swamp secondary would be quite helpful
 • If only I knew a pearlcatcher with gembond
 • I'd love to meet a snapper with black poison''
 • I would like to investigate a goat eyed dragon
Rewards would vary on the quest's difficulty but would essentially be:
 • Treasure, amount dependent on the difficultly (but along the levels you'd get for exalting) possibly also a chance at a gem or two
 • A few random items
 • And depending on what route the admins decided on either a chance for a gene token OR a very rare chance at a scroll drop

Gene Tokens - you’d have a 1:4 chance of getting one for an easy quest, a 1:2 chance for a moderate quest and a guaranteed Gene Token for a difficult quest. This idea would be a good way to introduce new uncommon/limited genes and breeds through Geneticist exclusive genes/breeds/eyes

I like his! This seems like it could be rather fun, and give people something to do when they're done with most of their other breedings/etc

Oh my gosh, this would be cool. Support?

The only thing I have an issue with are the "Gene Tokens". While it could be a wonderful idea, it almost seems like it'd be too much to implement all at once. It would be easier, say, if you simply have the chance to win a gene or breed change depending on the difficulty of the quest. Even if they're non-transferrable between players, it would be adding another form of currency to the system and might just cause problems in the long run? That's pretty much speculative nonsense on my part, though.

The concept sounds cool, though. I like it. Kind of gives an alternative to exalting and would make people buy more dragons to get the combinations needed!

They could add it in steps @Amadeus They get the bulk of the idea up and running. Players could be collecting Gene Tokens for completed quests and holding on to them until the admins get the experimental scroll aspect working and over time they can add new things to the scroll.

I don't think the gene tokens would cause problems in the long run; but winning breed change or gene change scrolls could because that item would be generated without actually taking money out of circulation (which happens when someone buys it from the market place). Even if the chances of winning the scroll were 1% that's be approximately one scroll every 100 quests completed. That could end up being a lot of scrolls being generated without taking money out of circulation and could negatively impact scroll sales

The scroll wouldn't be an item that you'd get in the hoard it would be similar to the mysterious lab in Neopets in that it would immediately have the effect on the dragon chosen as the test subject. And since its random and there would be the bad rolls it would have a lesser effect on the overall economy. I suspect that most players would use exalt fodder as the test subjects

I do like this idea a lot! But I think there should also be a cooldown after completing a quest, and it should be longer than the cooldown you get after canceling the quest.

This isn't Aywas. :/

@Noctis since the dragons do have to be born from your clan, I think that would add a natural cooldown to quests simply because the chances of you having the exact dragon on hand (especially for the more difficult quests) are unlikely.

@bloodspun what is Aywas? This idea is to add some challenge for those that like to breed to meet a goal and also help the economy by increasing demand (buying dragons to breed for a quest)
