Clan Info
Welcome to Clan Lacunae. Sit a moment, and listen to our clan's founding tale, if you would.
Tundra dragons are known for having poor memories, though most of them give little thought to the fact: just as the ice floes grow and recede with the seasons' turn, so do their minds, a natural part of the ebb and flow of their lives. But the dragon Mistotharc, always a curious soul, became fascinated by the gaps in his own memory, and spent long hours reflecting on and studying his mind in an attempt to uncover what, if anything, lay behind the absences.
It was intended as an innocent exploration of self, nothing more. But one day, the pieces locked into place, the sliding blocks of a puzzle, and he Saw: not just into the depths of his own mind, but into the very fabric of existence. Reality, he saw, was made of up equal parts matter and void: the things and the spaces between things, the potentials, the unknowns.
His mind had been shattered and, in the shattering, made whole. He was on the brink of a revelation. That absent matter, that space in the structure of the world, was every bit as alive and significant as that which could be named and categorised. If he could only figure out what to do with it...!
In that moment, a spirit appeared to him, a messenger of the Icewarden in the form of a hummingbird.
"SEEK THE LACUNAE," it said. "SEEK THOSE WHO CARRY IN THEM THE SPACES BETWEEN, AND MARK THEM, FOR THEY ARE THE KEY. WHEN THOSE OF THE LACUNAE ARE JOINED TOGETHER, THE MOUTH OF THE VOID WILL OPEN, AND THROUGH IT TRUE KNOWLEDGE MAY BE GLIMPSED."
Though he understood no more than he had before, Mist now at least had a plan. From his gazing into the spaces between things, his sight had been altered such that he could see, in certain individuals, the tendency toward void: spaces in them larger than in others, where the seeds of a greater rift might take root. He would find these people and win them to his clan, so that together, they might study the mysteries of the lacunae and open the path to knowledge...
