For the most part, Keao's personality is decidedly amicable and cheerful, even to the point of being considered annoying by his closest acquaintances. He nearly always appears randomly, jovially butting in while something important is being discussed, and is rather well-known for leaving his duties just just to have a little chat with friends. The Skydancer is also a rather forcefully hospitable person, never taking "no" for an answer when offering a night's stay in his inn and simply loves to take care of all the travelers staying at his place.

...(more about his character....)

Keao, despite all his goofball antics, is a rather wise man for his age and is prone to give out advice to the people he has invited into his 'extended family'--every dragon ever checked in--so every one of them would the correct path to a happy future, good winds and a loving home.

'The Grand Opening'

A perfectly warm breeze blew through the Whispering Hall. Keao carefully dusted every ledge and crevice, he made sure the walls of every cave were smooth, he turned on the heater; he had to be absolutely certain that everything would be the best it possibly could be. Then he walked into the main hall and took inventory of everything else that still had to be done before the grand opening in two hours.

“Tien! Kaida! Get out here!” Keao’s voice carried through to the kitchens where Kaida was just beginning to pull out her pot and pans to cook and upstairs to the lounge where Tien had fallen asleep. Kaida sighed before briskly walking to the main foyer. Tien continued to sleep soundly.

“Tien!” Keao called out again. No response. “Tien!” A loud thump sounded from upstairs. Tien lazily drifted down from the balcony and sighed. “Glad you could join us. Sorry to be so snappy, but I need this to be perfect. Kaida, you have the menu for dinner tonight, correct?”

Kaida gave a short nod. “Of course.”

“Great. Tien, are all the rooms ready and did you prepear the hot towels for the baths?”

“You know I wouldn’t dare dream of disappointing you.” Sarcasm dripped heavily from his words.

“Tien. Your duties need to be done. I’ll just assume that they are.” The Skydancer looked around the room a few times and nodded. “Kaida, get to cooking. Tien, finish your jobs.”

Kaida smiled and lowered herself into a respectful bow before hurrying back to the kitchens. Tien shrugged and flew back to the second floor to, hopefully, finish his chores. Keao took a deep breath. Everything seemed like it was going fine. Nothing could possibly go wrong!

He spoke too soon.

Smoke started pouring out of the kitchen. Keao sprinted into the kitchen. Kaida looked flustered. A fire was raging, attempting to consume what Kaida had started to make. She was desperately trying to get water from the tap, but nothing came out. She looked down at Keao with panic written all over her face.

“Why is there no water in the kitchen!?”
Keao had never seen the elderly imperial so agitated.

“Cover that fire! I’ll try and figure this out!” Keao ran out of the kitchen, coughing from the inhaled smoke. Suddenly, a loud crash came from upstairs. Keao shook his head. “No. No, no, no. Not today.” He pushed off the ground and landed in the hallway.

Tien looked down at the Skydancer. “Okay, don’t get mad with me, but you know that really nice vase you had made by the glassblowers in the Great Furnace?”

Keao rubbed his temples as he tried not to lash out at the Coatl. “Yes.”

“Well, I was trying to kill a beetle that was one the ceiling and I fell and I crashed into the pedestal. I tried to catch it, but it didn’t make it.”

Keao peered around Tien to look at the shattered vase. Pieces were scattered everywhere. He glanced at the timepiece on his wrist then back to Tien. “You have an hour and a half to fix that.” He pushed off the ground and plummeted back to the foyer, where smoke had taken over. “Kaida!”

“Sorry! I had to get the smoke out of the kitchen! I have cooking to do!” Kaida’s voice came from the general direction of the kitchen.

For the briefest moment, Keao considered slamming his head into the wall with the hope that when he woke up, everything would be perfect. However, there was smoke to dispel and a vase to replace. He took a moment to offer a prayer to the Windsinger. He hoped that perhaps, despite never being around for his children, the Windsinger might give a breeze to clear the smoke. Keao sat still for a few moments before sighing. He’d have to---

A massive breeze came from behind Keao. The windchimes were going crazy and all the smoke was pouring out the windows and into the sky. One problem down, one to go. Tien flew down from upstairs. “Hey! I’ll be back! Don’t even worry about the vase. Go take a nap or something.” With that, he was out the door.

Keao furrowed his eyebrows and thought for a moment. He deserved a nap. After all the hard work he had done in the past few weeks, he really deserved a nap. He walked behind the grand fireplace and into another lounge. He curled up onto one of the couches and promptly fell asleep.

When Keao awoke, there was quite a bit of noise coming from the grand hall. He rolled off the couch and went to check out the noise. People were lined up outside the door, awaiting the opening. Keao looked at his timepiece.

Five minutes until show time!

He flew up to where Tien had broken the vase. Tien stood next to the pedestal, wiping down another vase. The new one seemed to have been made by the dragons from the Sunbeam Ruins, but it was still beautiful and maybe even looked better in the room. Keao smiled and flew back down to greet the eager customers.

“Welcome to The Humming Chimes Inn! I hope you all enjoy your time here and come back again soon!” Keao ceremoniously removed the red velvet rope blocking the entrance and stepped aside to let the dragons in.

“Looks like everything turned out well.” Kaida smiled warmly at Keao.

“Looks like it.”
