Angrboda met Loki at the end of her Search: he is the one she was destined to guard for the remainder of her life. From that day, they have shared a close bond. It was Angrboda who carved out the cave in the Crystalspine Reaches that the Clan first called home. Though Loki often finds his role as her charge frustrating and insists he can take care of himself, he is grateful for her presence at his side. In battle, Angrboda uses her size and strength to her considerable advantage. However, despite her large body, her opponents have learned that she is surprisingly light on her feet. She provides Loki with much-needed back-up when his Breath is lowered and he needs to meditate to replenish his magical reserves. Although he is her charge, Angrboda doesn't always agree with Loki and his decisions - and will be the first to tell him when he is wrong or if his tricks and illusions have gone too far. He frequently finds himself on the wrong side of her fiery temper, and on those occasions the lair echoes with the sound of her roars. However, when the heat of the moment has cooled, Angrboda is quick to forgive and forget. Sometimes she finds it difficult to accept that other dragons aren't as magnanimous, and she cannot stand those who hold a grudge. Luckily, Loki understands that her anger is at his actions and decisions, and that underneath it she is thinking of what's best for him and the Clan. When she draws him under her wing after their fights, he's happy to let go of any ill-feeling left between them. For a time, Angrboda and Loki were a mated pair and incubated three clutches together. With each set of eggs, Angrboda worried constantly that their hatchlings would turn out like her: mismatched and unseemly - despite Loki's reassurances that she is no such thing. Although all of her hatchlings are in her eyes beautiful - as she constantly reminds them - they also succumbed to the Arcane energies of the Crystalspine Reaches. Their bodies and minds were warped by the magic, and though she loves them fiercely, she dearly wishes that she could have spared them the pain of being different. With each clutch, she begged Loki to do something - to lay down better protection - and when that failed, to fix what had been broken by the Arcanist's magics. Loki tried, but could do little. After the third clutch, she could not stand the trepidation of incubating more eggs. She told Loki that she would have no more hatchlings - not with him; not with anyone. At first he tried to reason with her - pleaded with her to reconsider. However, her stubborn streak (and her fear) won out. Although they are no longer a mated pair, Angrboda and Loki remain close and are affectionate with one another. She is still his second in command, and he had great respect for her opinions. As always, she leads the way in matters of combat, and even Thor is happy to defer to her superior wisdom and experience. Angrboda dotes on the hatchlings she shares with Loki - in all their strange forms. The reminds them frequently that they are beautiful, much to their continued embarrassment, and insists on grooming their scales from time to time although they are all more than old enough now to do it themselves. |
