Sanguinaria is a member of the clan guard, where her large size and plague history make her an effective fighter. However, she is cautious about using her claws and teeth, and is more likely to enter a fight after it has begun than start it herself. This, plus her strong protective streak, makes her the ideal guide for new fighters as first start out. She considers her 'charge' to be the young fighters of the clan.

She instructs students of all ages in physical defense and offense. It’s hard for her to be tough (she’s a softy at heart) but she knows that weakness will get her students killed. Most of her pupils are scared of her and do their best to never disappoint her. She cries herself to sleep when one of her pupils is grievously injured, even if it has been years since they were her students.

Botanically, Sanguinaria canadensis, commonly known as bloodroot, is a plant native to eastern north American forests. Its roots produce a dark red poisonous sap.
