The night was cold and dark, the willow trees unwelcoming, the streams of the Everbloom Gardens cold and forbidding. A little nimble fae was scurrying along the forest path as the autumn wind whistled in her ears. Leafy green eyes shone in the unseeing mist, a lithe olive body, and cobalt colored wings folded behind her back. The little fae had not even bothered to fly. Fear pounded in her heart as she ran through the night. And her name was Gladespirit. She had had enough of her former clan, where they were ruthless, hostile, and cunning, and the most unfriendliest one was the clan leader, Lydia. Gladespirit chose to leave. So she snuck out during the night so the risks of being caught were much lower, and escaped.
"Woe betide me, I must leave," she had whispered as she crept away.
But as she hastened around the unknown, for she was scared, a sound of whispering rang in her ears like a bell. It was rather peculiar, but it seemed to comfort Gladespirit, for she knew that she had company, that stopped her from feeling lonely. And suddenly, there was a silhouette in the shadows, and out walked a large figure. She looked more like a tree than an actual dragon, because flowers and moss alike bloomed on her scales, and every wildlife she glided past seemed to blossom with even a more tremendous beauty than before. She moved with an easy loping grace as she contemplated Gladespirit with her kindly mossy eyes. The eerie whispering became more pronounced as ever as the stranger came closer and closer to Gladespirit.
"Who are you, and what do you want with me?" Gladespirit asked with a surge of distrust in her voice.
She had heard of a monster from many travelers in the past that was hidden within the Gladeveins, putting all life under her deceitful charm, tricking all those around her. But the stranger's aged, face seemed too kind for this to be true. Nevertheless, Gladespirit backed up against the bole of a nearby willow tree, her leafy green eyes wide and scared.
"I am the Gladekeeper, Mother Nature, caretaker of the wilderness," the stranger boomed proudly. Her words echoed across the forest, so strong that it seemed that it seemed that the world was vibrating from her mighty, rich voice. "And you have been chosen as the Caretaker of the Willows."
"What's that?" Gladespirit asked defiantly, her tone both disbelieving and puzzled.
"They are those who have nature's best interests at heart, personally chosen by myself," the Gladekeeper explained, as the trees around her trembled from her echoing voice.
"How---"
"Don't you hear those whispers sometimes? They are not a figment of your imagination. They are the whispers of your ancestors, deep within those willow trees. They will guide you throughout your life, and emphasize your thoughts. Only those of the Caretakers of the Willows hear those murmurs. There are few in this world. And they will come . . . in time."
"I---" Gladespirit was interrupted by the shrieking thundering of the sky, as rain came pouring down. Lightning crackled menacingly through the now plain gray sky as the Gladekeeper looked down at her and said hurriedly, "The deities are impatient. I must go. We will meet again, Gladespirit."
And with that the Gladekeeper slowly dissolved into the spring wind that whooshed past her face as it glided away into nothingness. And Gladespirit gazed in wonder at the spot where the Gladekeeper and stood on just a few moments ago.

An agonizing screech sliced the calm, still air as Gladespirit's eyes snapped open with vague surprise. With a startled gasp, she found that she was lying at the banks of a stream. Her wings were swept lifelessly on the floor, and her tail was streaming from side to side on the rushing waters of the stream. Thick vines and mossy dreams shielded the sky so no light streamed in, loping about these lands, and Gladespirit realized she was in the Shrieking Winds. But her eyes snapped away from the wondrous sights as the scream went on again. Scrambling to her feet, hearing the whispers of caution and encouragement as the willows danced in their spots nearby, Gladespirit sprinted as fast as she could, feeling her heart thunder with determination. Whoever the victim was, she would save her. She stopped on her tracks, at last, to see a limp purple hatchling with astonishing bright yellow eyes moaning, clutched its leg. An earthen beast with snarling, vivid green eyes was growling at her, spraying the poor thing with its putrid spit and breath.
"Stay away!" Gladespirit bellowed at the monster, lashing out her gleaming talons. As the willows screamed their encouragement that rang loud and clear in her ears, she ripped, clawed, snarling like she never had, at the beast, its moan of agony music to her ears. Finally with a final howl, the monster limped away, as Gladespirit watched it flee with a satisfied smile.
"T-thank you," the little nocturne squeaked uncertainly.
Gladespirit turned to her, giving her a comforting smile. "What's your name?" she asked kindly as she scooped the little nocturne onto her lap. "I'm Gladespirit, and I'm looking to start a clan. Would you like to join? Or do you have parents that are looking for you? I can help you find your way back to them."
"My name is Yahaloma," the nocturne murmured shyly. "My parents perished from the hands of Griffins . . . so I escaped for a period of time, trying to find the right home. After you saved my life . . . I would love to join."
"I will make sure you will feel right at home, Yahaloma," Gladespirit promised solemnly. "And the clan name will be---" For a moment, she paused, as the whispers of the Willows sang their joy and approval. "---WillowSong Clan."
