Biography

Note: Special ID

The cave filled with an eerie emerald glow, the scent of chalk permeating his senses. The scholar stood stock still, as if in a trance, channeling arcane magick into the inscribed runes along the ground. The air was dense and heavy, the cloyingly sweet taste settling lightly on his tongue and threatening to distract him. As the ancient inscriptions activated, they blazed with an unearthly intensity not unlike water erupting from a burst dam. A web of magicks zigzagged around the space, as if mapping out its surroundings. A disembodied voice echoed menacingly, sounding infuriated.

"What do you want?"

The Skydancer startled, not expecting his spellwork to bear fruit. "I just want to talk."

A curious snicker sounded, before the magick took the form of an ethereal-looking Spiral. Its eyes glowed with the same emerald that lit up the walls around them. Tanvir the Learned was twice the size of the biggest Spiral the Skydancer's ever seen, his long abdomen repeatedly coiling on itself in midair. "Nobody's ever walked away sane from a 'talk' with me, little scholar. What is so important to know that you sacrifice the means to share your findings?"

"How did you die?"

"My," a breathy laugh emanated from the spectre, despite his jaws remaining tightly shut with no signs of movement, "how prude, my feelings would have been hurt.. Had there been any left."

"I knew you didn't kill yourself. Someone else did, and--"

"Yes, yes. I've heard this drivel before." The ethereal eyes tracked his movements carefully, and Vizier stiffened uncomfortably. "Yes, how observant. But you're not here to figure that out, are you?" A pause. "What is your name?"

"Vizier," he swallowed thickly.

"Vizier." The Skydancer shook visibly at the touch of malice in the voice.

"Come then, how do you think I died?"

He's smart, Vizier shuddered with realization. I shouldn't have summoned him, but it's too late for that now. "Your mate did it, didn't she? You wrote of her slow descent into madness, but you didn't realize that you weren't going to witness it in its entirety."

"Good, very good," the spectre's teeth flashed dangerously. "What else?"

"Y-you tried a ritual," Vizier cursed how uncertain and fearful his voice sounded. "But it only made her worse, and she attacked you."

The Spiral inclined its head, but otherwise gave no indication that he agreed with what Vizier said. Instead, he sauntered over, stopping only a hair's width before the scholar's face.

"Almost." A feral grin overtook the spectre's visage, and he sneered. "I would've let you live, had you gotten it right. I did perform a ritual, only.. it did work." Vizier gulped audibly, this is bad. He could see it now, in Tanvir's eyes. They weren't the brilliant seafoam the historians described. They were murky, as if tainted by some darker entity.

"I am the keeper of the Shade now, scholar. I took it from her. Do you understand? Countless like you have tried to make sense of your theories, and more have failed. Your thirst for the truth makes me stronger, with every soul you fools deliver into my grasp."

Vizier's breath caught in his throat as his magick seemed to wrestle itself from some unseen grasp.

"I hope your curiosity has been satisfied."
