Yuki ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Japanese name meaning happiness, snow, lucky Chinese name meaning "elegant, graceful" and "cloud patterns" Yuki helps the clan prepare for incoming weather by surveying clouds, air pressure, and wind movement throughout the day. She has shelves full of her pages of daily observations across the years, which she occasionally references to predict long-term weather trends. Most dragons do not fly higher than they need to in order to save energy, but Yuki has a talent for flying higher than most dragons would dare. Her goggles and warm clothes help keep her comfortable as she ascends to the frigid air above the clouds to observe the world far below. She says that this talent comes from a combination of practicing flight and breathing patterns, and just gradually getting used to the cold, low-oxygen conditions. Still, even she has her limits; Yuki once flew too high, too fast, and realized too late that she was becoming light-headed. She was helpless to stop herself from falling unconscious and plummeting towards the ground thousands of feet below. Thankfully for Yuki, another dragon happened to look up at that exact moment. A nocturne, seeing her plight, flew up as fast as they could and caught her before any harm could come to her. When Yuki finally regained consciousness, her head still spinning, she saw that another dragon was hunched over her with a worried expression. "Thank the Glademother," they sighed and visibly relaxed a little, "you're alright." That dragon was Gemma, and after years of living in the same clan yet hardly knowing each other, their lives had crashed together through a very out-of-the-ordinary circumstance. After the shock of the ordeal wore off, the nocturnes bonded more easily than they may have expected. Gemma, who had had their heart broken a few too many times, was able to open their heart again for Yuki, who in contrast had never had a partner before. Now the two have been mates for several years and are usually found relaxing together when not performing their jobs. They wear matching citrine rings and Yuki enjoys coming home to the stew that Gemma likes to make. |
