Biography
TARANIS
Summoner
"Fear comes from the worst part of us."
He was young. He didn't know. He hadn't grown into his power yet.
All excuses offered in his defense, offered to keep him from being sent into exile. All of them, flimsy in the face of the wreckage he left behind.
Maybe it is true that he was young, that he didn't and couldn't have known better. But he was certainly grown into his power and then some, because he would have never brought destruction raining down on his home otherwise.
It started as a harmless way for a young dragon to have fun. The frigid northern waters called to Taranis, and he used to play on the icy outlooks, pretending to be king of the ice floes glittering before him. One day, it was to be his, inherited through his father, inherited from his father, and so on, stretching back for generations. The world was his oyster, his birthright, and he wandered it with impunity. Consequences could not dream of catching him.
But then he actually began to venture down to the shores, dipping his claws into the freezing water and letting the current's pull wind its way around his heart. What's more, he felt the things in the deep. They twisted upward at his beck and call, and they were so mighty. Power like that would ensure his father's pride, not to mention the inheritance he waited so eagerly for.
It took weeks for them to reach his side. They were farther away than he thought, deeper below the waves than he believed. But when they came, they shook the world down around them. Mountains crumbled, blizzards howled, the sea churned. Dragons died trying to subdue the creatures that Taranis summoned from the deep because he could not send them back. His power called them, but it did not control them once they arrived. At that point, they were free to ravage the world.
He could not face the ruins once it was finally over. His kingdom was ashes and snow, and already the Icewarden's winds were sweeping the remains away. Taranis was fit to rule nothing, and nothing was all that he had left. Before the survivors could overthrow him formally, he took his leave, not wishing to bring any more misfortune upon their heads.
So he fled. He bottled his power deep inside and barely even looked into the sea on his voyage northward. Every step was terse, calculated, and though he felt the ocean waves lapping at his heart, he refused to give in to their call lest he lay waste to another empire in its prime. Inland and further inland he went, desperate to get away from the sea, and every time he believed it was far enough, the power stirred in his chest again.
Since the day he fled, only in Nyx Coven has he felt some semblance of safety. The ocean's call is dampened here, even with the sea lying so close, and he trusts in the furious power of the witches around him. Every one of them has a gift, some small spark that needs only the right nudge to roar to life, and should something go awry, he believes that they will have more than enough strength to battle it into submission. Nevertheless, he hopes that day will never come. He has spent a lifetime running from his past, and has no wish to bring it upon anyone else. In the end, only he should have to face his mistakes. No one else.
