Solar Eclipse hatchlings are as rare as the astrological phenomenon under which they are born. Legend says the first solar eclipse was caused by the Shade spreading across the sky, completely blotting out the sun. The Lightweaver fought back the darkness and forced it to retreat, bringing light back to the world and scoring an important victory for the Eight. For as long as Light dragons can remember, eclipses have been celebrated as a holiday of hope and rebirth. Dragons from all across the Sunbeam Ruins gather together to watch the eclipse and retell the story of the Lightweaver’s victory. Hatchlings born under the eclipse are viewed as blessed by the Lightweaver, the living symbol of her protection.

All Solar Eclipse dragons seem to be drawn to space, but their coloring and personality depends greatly on which type of solar eclipse occurred at the time of their hatching. Those born under a total solar eclipse are reclusive and nocturnal, preferring to work by the light of the moon. These dragons are attuned to the magic of celestial bodies, accurately predicting future events based on the placement of the planets and stars. It is unclear just how much of the future they can see. Among many Light dragons, it is considered best to consult a Total Solar Eclipse dragon before finalizing any important decisions relating to marriage or business.

Those born under an annular solar eclipse differ greatly from their Total Solar Eclipse cousins. While just as attuned to celestial magic, these dragons are drawn to the sun, treasuring warmth, life, and social connections over everything else. Energetic and talkative, these dragons never run out of stories to tell and jokes to make. In fact, it is rare to find one by themselves, as they prefer large crowds and seem to thrive on being the center of attention. Annular Solar Eclipse have taken on a spiritual role of sorts among Light dragons, writing agricultural almanacs and performing ritualistic blessings for eggs and newly-born hatchlings.
