 Personality:
Gilneas was a reserved and scholarly member of the Time Flight before his conversion to the Madness Flight. He had a sharp tongue, but was highly organized and intelligent. He did not enjoy the spotlight and preferred to take more unpleasant tasks in exchange for going under the radar. After being exposed to Abyssal energy, his mind was corrupted into a chaotic state where he frequently had trouble sleeping and was incredibly paranoid. During this period of time, the other disciples of Madness reported that he was twitchy and irritable.

After the end of the Shattered War, he was haunted by his guilt. Because of this, he worked with the Four to establish the Abyss Watchers, in order to prevent such tragedies from ever happening again. He never fully recovered from the effects of the Abyss, but through his research findings he was able to partially heal his and others' shattered minds. Although he was not well-respected during the Shattered War, his actions of reparation and taking his banishment with dignity made him a somewhat sympathetic character in many history books.

History:
Gilneas was originally a book keeper and translator in the Time Flight. Despite their initial language barrier, he became good friends with a Fae named Malik. When the Abyss appeared, he accompanied Malik on his expedition. However, the Abyssal energy corrupted him and he soon converted from Time to the Madness Flight.

During the Shattered War, Gilneas continued his research into the Abyss alongside Malik. He avoided the battlefield at all costs, and thus was not well known even by many of Madness' own disciples. One day he rescued a young girl by the name of Charybdis, who he started to think of as his adoptive daughter. However, his research eventually lead to the Abyss demanding her as a vessel, which coupled with some arguments started to drive a wedge between him and Malik. This was also the point where he started to secretly research ways to seal the Abyss.

After the war was over, plagued by guilt and heartbreak over the loss of his daughter, he turned in all of his and Malik's research findings to the Four. He also instructed them on how to seal the Abyss, and helped establish the Abyss Watchers in order to prevent anything from happening again. However, his actions were not enough to save him or the Madness Flight, and they were banished to the Abyss before it was sealed. Forgotten in the dark, he spent the rest of his life continuing his research in order to help the remnants of the Madness Flight deal with the corruption in their minds.
