Days he sat there, a lone, sparkely hatchling in a sea of dragons. Clan leaders coming by and inspecting hatchlings, leaders selling hatchlings or trading them off…he didn’t understand it. Why would they want to be rid of him? What had he, or any of the others, done wrong? He looked around him, several siblings were with him, several had been sold already. Of coruse, most looked just like him, just varrying degrees of shiny. He saw two dragons looking at his siblings and he, two dark dragons. One a mirror, and the other a tundra. They came to where he and his siblings were, looking at them all. The mirror selecting a hatchling that…wasn’t him. A more aggressive nocturne was the hatchling they had chosen. But then, the tundra said something to the mirror, and gestured in his direction. The two squabbled for a moment before the tundra eventually grabbed him and started walking, leaving the mirror to haggle over price.
He had been surprised when he was put with a small female. Another mirror, by the looks of it. She scared him. She was aggressive, and she bit, clawed and hissed at him whenever he…well…whenever he did anything, it seemed to him. And so he would hide from her, afraid of whatever abuse the psycho hatchling would dole out on him. But then, things changed. One day he felt someone poking at him with a claw, gently tapping at him, followed by a confused trill. He looked in the direction of the sound, only to find the mirror, Vex, looking at him, as if he was a broken toy. He looked at her, gently pawing at her, as she had done to him. This, of course, incited her. She lept away with a hiss, lowering herself to the ground, her tail waving behind her. He backed off, afraid of her once again, and she stopped, once more confused by his actions. It was then that he realized. She wasn’t angry at him, nor did she hate him. She was just crazy . He thought for a moment and realized there were no others in the clan that so much as resembled them…had she been bought like he had? Was this just how things had been in her old clan? It made sense, he guessed. At that moment, an idea struck him, a crazy idea, and he lunged at her. She, of course, responded much quickly than he had anticipated, and so the first of many fights began.
From that day on Chrome and Vex were nearly inseparable. The only time they spent apart was when Balefire took Vex to train her, and even then she would come back and tell him everything she had been told. When she was gone, he would often hang around Doof, the two of them having found a strange appreciation for the blind Wildclaw’s music, even if everyone else just called it noise. Eventually the three dragons formed a coliseum team, and an effective one, at that.
Though he’s come out of his shell a bit, Chrome remains the more reserved of the two war dragons, generally allowing Vex to take the lead in most anything they do.
