"I'm getting old," thought Dusk. "Or maybe just tired and overwhelmed." He stood up and stretched his wings. The disturbance caused the top sheets of parchment from the stacks surrounding him to fall to the ground. They landed in a thick layer of dust.

"I don't even know how long it's been since I last cleaned up in here." He frowned. "Plus, I'm starting to make mistakes." He couldn't believe that he'd ordered Emre the wrong gene scroll! That was a costly mistake.

He could still hear his mate chiding him. "You need help Dusk. This is too much for any one dragon to take care of." He'd shaken off her worry then, but she was right. He needed help. It was time to look for an apprentice.

They boy's parents had called themselves Wish Keepers. "We specialize in keeping track of the wants of a lair. The boy has been helping us since the moment he was hatched. He's a hard worker and he really cares about taking care of dragons."

This was exactly what Dusk had been looking for. He loved recording the history of the lair and tracing genealogies. Keeping track of who wanted what and making sure it got ordered had always been his least favorite part of the job.

"It's a large lair, young dragon. You think you can handle that?"

The dragon nodded enthusiastically, "Oh yes! I can't wait to help!"
