Paliex, Typhoon, Samaranth, and Tigrias were the closest of siblings. Even though Paliex was the eldest, Typhoon was the leader of their group, and his second in command was Samaranth. Paliex and Tigrias just kind of followed along behind, capable in their own right but content letting Typhoon lead. Still, all together they were a force to be reckoned with, and the first clutch of besties from clan Auminthina that have remained fully alive and mostly intact.

Growing up in the clan Auminthina was trying. All the adults who had lived through The Kidnapping were overprotective of their young; finding their own hatchlings skinned-alive and left hung in a tree to die, after being kidnapped right from under their noses, had shaken them. Typhoon encouraged everyone to put in their best effort into training. He and Samaranth decided their clutch would grow up to be fierce warriors. Paliex didn't want to fight, ever, but he found sparring with his siblings to be quite a lot of fun.

Then the day finally arrived. Their clan initiation. Because Auminthina lived so far below the canopies of the Viridian Labyrinth, in the darkest recesses far from the warmth of sunlight, they had initiation ceremonies above the leaves to see if their members could cope under the blinding light from the sun. Most of the time, the new clan member is shocked and frightened by this new experience, and so they choose to avoid it. Rarely, like with this clutch, the hatchlings enjoy it.

In the games they played Typhoon proved he was a perfect example of a strong ridgeback, as he seemed to thrive here even more than he ever had in the clan’s constant darkness. This surprised everyone; they had had been hatchlings who could get used to the light, but never had there been one so suited to it! This—regrettably—granted him greater status among the clan’s hatchlings, and he pressured his siblings into training even harder so that they could go out and travel the world.

Paliex was uncertain of this plan; he is uncomfortable in the sunlight and prefers the cool glow of the bio-luminescent mushrooms back home. But still, he loved his brother, so he pushed aside his reservations and trained above the canopy with his brother. The whole group, with Tigrias lagging behind just a little, set off to see the everything that life could offer them.

So, they all left to go on a great adventure. Eventually, however, they encountered Typhoon's worst nightmare. They were surprised by a terrible storm while exploring the Shifting Expanse, and separated by the disastrous weather. With his siblings grounded, Paliex tried to find Typhoon, but the erratic forks of lightning lashing across the sky was too much. He had to land. Typhoon stayed in the air, his faint outline just visible in the roiling clouds and driving rain. Then he was gone.

Once they were safely away, Samaranth was elected as their leader. Paliex thought that she would take them all home. But she didn’t, instead refusing to return and face their failure. Tigrias begged her to just let them settle down somewhere, so they did. Here in the Hewn City, as part of clan Caelum.
