This is the story of the rise of Ellesmeera's Kingdom. (A location in my fantasy series)

It all starts with the rise of Magic:

It is said that magic came into the world in the form of a screaming ball of flames, streaming down from the heavens. When it landed, magic permeated the earth, soaking into it like water.
The first to inherit the power of magic were the dragons. Ages old already, with magic came to them sapience, and with sapience came the end of their bloodthirsty ways. No more did they seek to claim territory or ransom from Men. Instead they turned their eyes towards the sky, seeking the knowledge of the heavens from whence this magic came. Instead of gold and gems, they now hoarded scrolls and books.
One dragon, Lacunata the Daughter of Magic, or Lacunata the Arcane as she is sometimes referred to, made her home in the crater where magic had landed. Or, as some say, the crater made its home on her lair. Whatever the case, she was the guardian of the Place where Magic Fell, a very revered and strange place. The raw energy of magic there had shaped the trees, turning them into crystal. Most shocking of all was the change it forced upon the brood of Lacunata. Her whelps were turned into legless, eel like creatures, kept floating in the air by the raw magic. With their long, whisker like feelers they acted as her attendants, and helped to guard the forest. Lacunata herself was also changed, it is said that she had four horns, curled at the ends, wings with feathers on them instead of the leather her kind usually sported. Her scales were colored like pearls, and her eyes glowed with the power of raw magic. She was the guardian of the Dreaming Tree. This tree, an enormous oak turned crystal by the impact of magic, was said to give visions to those who would touch it, or sleep under it as Lacunata was reported to have done in those first days her kind had awoken knowing themselves.

Ellesmeera is said to be a distant descendant of Lacunata, she and the citizens of her Kingdom strive to learn everything there is to know in the world; and to catalogue it all for ages to come.

Because those of the line of Lacunata radiate magic, it is not uncommon to see the citizens of Ellesmeera's Kingdom sporting extra pairs of horns or wings.

Captain Anuska and her Pirates: Anuska is a Ridgeback of the Kingdom who has taken to the sky with her trusty crew. Luckily, they're more the kind to find treasure in the wild than they are to steal it from other clans.

Lydia and her Dance Troupe: Lydia leads a troupe of Skydancers who perform dances that they have found depicted on old tablets and scrolls the more archaeologically inclined citizens of the Kingdom bring back from their excursions.

Malsyn and the Roseguard: Malsyn is a Pearlcatcher who leads a group of dragonesses in patrol of the Kingdom. She came to command her group after recieving education and training from Alabraxxis. They act as the female guardians of the Kingdom.

The Nightwatch: Lead by Mordecai, these nocturnal dragons keep the Kingdom safe when night falls.
