Biography
Nyx
Priestess In Training
Secret Dancer Hidden It’s considered hostile to wear a mask while in the Ice realm, since when you’re living in the Fortress of Ends strangers are either allies to help survive or enemies trying to steal your resources. To hide one’s face is considered a sign of mistrust and a bad omen all around between the denizens of the frozen wasteland. The one exception is reserved for members of religious cults. In that case the covering of one’s features is tolerated and respected as a sign of one’s faith. In the Tempest Clan the high priestess is the vessel through which the gods speak to the common folk. For her to cover her face is to obscure her identity - behind the mask the dragon doesn’t matter, and the words spoken by her are taken as orders from the gods themselves. After years under the careful tutelage of the High Priestess, Nyx was finally awarded with a mask of her own, branding her as a member of the religious elite that rules over the clan. Though not as powerful or influential as her mentor, the skydancer's words hold power over the court and the lower caste dragons. Guardian While still in training it was Nyx that stumbled upon and brought to the queen's attention the existence of icy catacombs below the clan's abode. Fiercely protected by the ghostly warden, the catacombs were home to hundreds of ice statues, each one a frozen prisoner left there by the Icewarden to be punished by their crimes. No one knew for sure how long they had been there, or what crime might warrant such harsh punishment. No dragon was old enough to remember, not even the imperial that kept watch over them. As the only one able to get close to the imperial and the only one capable or holding some control over the creature, Nyx was at once assigned to Erebus and his charges. Her job was to keep the warden tamed and manageable for the queen, as well as make sure that none of the prisoners woke up that might threaten the clan. Over the years since the skydancer actually grew to prefer the company of her mate and the quietness of the tunnels below to the bustle and constant drama of the high court. With the recent additions of Ghost and one of the queen's children to her small family, the catacombs are quite lively nowadays. Her only worry is that, like Ghost, more of its inhabitants start to wake up soon. |
