I profit exhault, if I'm mass-buying cheap hatchlings, they're all going to be exhaulted. I'll sell them back for what I bought them for. If I've started leveling them, an additional price of 1kt/1g per level will be added to the cost of the dragon. All dragons destined for service to the Icewarden will have a stamp in their bio and will be under the Hearth's Cradle (temporary) tab. I also use Hearth's Cradle for nest rentals or dragons I'm keeping for people, so not everything there is automatically fodder.
