For Glaistig, to live simply is to live richly. Material goods are only valuable because of their sentiment; treasure should not be wasted on something that will only be thrown to the wayside, especially when someone like her can see its true worth when discovering it there. She's amassed quite an interesting yet manageable collection, from the discarded old bones and ragged clothing she drapes herself with, to the reclaimed chipped bottles, scorched cauldron, cracked mortar and pestle, stained journals, half-burned candles, and broken mirror she uses for her magic.Glaistig is generally pleasant to be around to those not off put by her habits. She's one to pick up on the little details about someone; not necessarily how their horn is a little crooked, or how a certain claw is chipped, but how they layer their jewelry, or how to make them laugh, or how they respond to a record playing in the corner of a room. She's always one to pay a compliment to any old friend or completely unfamiliar stranger, not to her benefit, but because she knows how lovely it feels to value one's self, and how lovely it is to be reminded to do it, or hear another share that value. Nonetheless, Glaistig doesn't mind if her compliments give way to the attention of a man or two. Perhaps one day, she says, she may settle down with another, but living freely and growing her various collections (of items, of friends, of lovers) is treating her quite nicely for the time being. Background:
Bones. It started with bones. As a hatchling, Glaistig absolutely adored meal time whenever meat was on the menu- provided it had the bones in. She'd gather whatever left over bits she could find, and scavenge for whatever little disease-ridden vermin corpses she could find. Eventually it translated into taking whatever toys or toy-resembling objects got discarded by other hatchlings, looking past tears and chips and missing pieces. At a young age she taught herself to sew with sinews from her fresh findings or any thread she could come by, repairing and enhancing whatever she could. Plushes grew armor made of Satin Mouse bones, plenty of once flightless figures gained wings of bones, and it was hard to find something she didn't want to coat with sticky red or green "war paint." As she grew older, she did more formal research, discovering how to weld, repair pottery, work with wood, use appropriate paint, and far more restorative techniques on top of better learning how to clean and preserve her little cadavers. Eventually her research down the rabbit hole led her to discovering a knack for magic- plague magic- and the real power behind sentimental value. She was on the path to becoming a witch, and soon enough she was eager to form her life around the magic she cultivated. An invitation to join The Coven of Malady's Rejoice was all it took for Glaistig to bid her family and old life goodbye, and begin her new life in a fresh clan. |
