An aggressive and tenacious fighter, Keith's placement among the Night Warriors of the Suncircle Clan was met with some trepidation from the dragons who already lived there. Sure, he was from a good branch of the family and his arrival had been eagerly anticipated... but was he really the right dragon for the job?

It didn't help matters that Keith's arrival came at a particularly turbulent time for the clan. His official announcement to the other permanent residents ended up delayed when a small group of rogue mages, led by the troublesome sorcerer Mooflower, decided to rebel against the established magical traditions of the Suncircle. While she was eventually forced out of the clan, her absence left a sizeable power gap that many of the clan's mages were still struggling to fill.

In the midst of the chaos, Keith's arrival went almost unnoticed, granting the young Nocturne a good deal more freedom than was common for new inductees into the Hall of Echoes. During his early months, Keith formed a rivalry with Lance, a fellow Night Warrior in training who felt threatened by Keith's natural skill until the two got to know each other better. He also found love for the first time with Sophella, an imposing blood mage from the allied Nine Skies Grove clan, and several of the hatchlings from their two nests together went on to become Night Warriors as well.

Keith has always had a penchant for exploring, and is very good at sticking his nose into matters that are better off being left alone. None of his friends and allies were surprised to find that he'd had an accident with a magical artifact one day, but they were extremely startled by the results. During his investigation of a hidden weapons stash, Keith had inadvertently shattered a smoke-filled red orb and released the spirit inside. A former slave of the black mage Moonflower, Seramore was a powerful entity from a realm beyond Sornieth, capable of changing many aspects of her shape to suit her own fancy. Instead of seeing Keith as an enemy, Seramore immediately accepted him as an ally and expressed her gratitude to him for freeing her from her long confinement. While some dragons still openly question their relationship, Keith's awe and regard for Seramore is nevertheless matched by her fondness for him.

Following a second, much more deliberate magical accident, Keith ended up gaining another son, after a fashion. Through the removal of his bloodline curse, it came to light that one of the clan's most promising young spellworkers, an apprentice by the name of Falchion, was actually Keith's grandson. While he was shocked by the circumstances and dismayed to learn that the removal of Falchion's bloodline curse had permanently destabilized his magic, Keith nevertheless welcomed Falchion into the family with open wings. The fallout from the incident also brought Keith and Lance together in a way that past trials had not; the mage who had removed the curse, Dawnshatter, was Lance's granddaughter, just as Falchion was Keith's grandson.
