The last time he had thought about his parents this intensely had not been a pleasant one; those dark nights that nearly froze him from the inside out, and being of half Ice descent, it has always weighed heavily on his mind. His mother had been a survivor--she taught all her children the importance of independence.

But those nights were so long ago. And the vital things he had learned from his mother had saved him in his worst moments, though not enough to save him from other dragons; in facilities where humans and dragons alike did what they pleased with others, it was horrible. The only good thing that came from it was the water which he retained at all times was chemically changed, and now housed herbal medicine. He had been kept around for so long as their personal nurse, but all things must end. Just as those memories should.

Alin was always quiet and nervous, accentuated from his bad experiences in the past. He didn't really want to meet anyone new, much less put himself in a town filled with life. But there was something different about this place he stumbled upon, and as he gazed up to the towering castle that cast a shadow over it's own outer wards, the quiet of his surroundings really started to hit him. This was no bustling town or village, as big as it was.

Alin's father had been a trainer, someone who worked with a lot of people. He learned a little bit about places like this and how they worked from him. But dragons were sparce here--as soon as he had the thought of a bad feeling, someone grabbed him from behind and swiftly pushed him into a building.

The door shut behind him, and the darkness engulfed everything. For a moment, there was fear, then, purple light shone dimly on a table in the middle of the room.

Alin felt himself shake his head--a fortune teller? That must have been some kind of ploy to get customers--but then the dragon spoke, and he felt himself frown.

"You must be of a lucky number; we certainly don't get a lot of visitors like this. And you must be thinking, you're in the wrong place, certainly, at the wrong time?"

The fortune teller's bright purple eyes glowed in the darkness, though Alin did not feel fear. Instead, he was reminded of something he would have deemed childish any other day--his pride in sharing the second digit in his parents' birthdays. Was 5 a lucky number? His thoughts were cut off, and he deflated when the dragon in the darkness spoke up again, laying cards out in front of him.

"Alas, you have come, and I'm here to enlighten on you.

Enlighten you to your new purpose. Travel no more, my friend. You have certainly found your new home."

Silence filled the room, and then the door opened. Light replaced silence, and the dragon at the table was revealed to be a Spiral of light purple color. He seemed annoyed, looking passed Alin, where another Spiral stood. He would have thought this to be some kind of thug--and he would have been right--until she removed her hood and spoke.

"Enough with the shenanigans, Tori. Is he a match, or what?"

A low grumble came from the other as he moved away from his table. As it turns out, he has very limited knowledge. This was rehearsed, and used on every traveler that happened upon their town.

"So you're saying, 'throw him to the curb'?"

This 'seer' told Alin not to mind her, she was hasty at best, but a threat to no one here. As it turns out, a sickness has taken over this kingdom. Dragons were falling one by one--young and old, royalty and the poor. It had taken so much from them, even their doctor. Their Prince was ill, and they were fearing the worst. Without the King and Queen, that boy was all they had left. Gentle apologies were given, and he was sent on his way.

Turning back and facing the castle, now much smaller, he knew he'd made a mistake. He was far from certified, but those dragons needed help.
