Nyxie wasn't looking for a pack. Her previous experience with dragons had left her heart hardened and guarded. It wasn't until she found Maoltuile that things began to change. He was such an odd fellow. He didn't talk much and when he did, he spoke in the monotone she knew his species favored. However, every time she tried to make him leave, he seemed more determined to stay.

"Why?" she asked after another failed attempt.

"Why do you ask these questions? The tree does not forsake the earth. It is needed. Only when the earth no longer needs the tree, will the tree say it's heartfelt good bye. Until then, the two are one and work together to create a better world."

After that day, Nyxie no longer pushed Maoltuile away. As the years came and went more dragons joined up with the two unlikely friends. Nyxie soon found what it was like to have a pack she cared for and enjoyed. The last barrier around Nyxie's heart was broken by Marrok. The two became mated soon after he joined the pack. Nyxie still can't believe she has a family of her own, but, when she looks around at all the faces she has come to care for, she remembers that the earth needs its trees.
