The cry of a talonok sounds as you struggle through the gale-force winds of the Twisting Crecendo. A flock of Skycats flap by, winging effortlessly through the storm. As you are tossed by them, you catch a glimpse of a rock spire jutting out of the clouds before you. With the last of your energy, you manage to angle your wings and bank into a landing on the narrow precipice. You dig your claws in, holding on for dear life.
"Hey!" A singsong voice sounds nearby. You turn you head around to see a shimmering blue and green skydancer hovering nearby. The strands of birdskull twined around his neck and wings flap wildly in the gale, but this obvious Wind dragon hardly seems to notice the storm. "You certainly look like you need a break!" He laughs, "follow me, before someone mistakes you for a half-dead seagull and eats you!" He does a loop-de-loop and starts flying away. "Come on! Our lair's not far!"
With difficulty, you gather up your wings and take off, following him as fast as you can. You can hardly fly by the time you find him perched on the tip of another spire. "Follow me!" He says, then scrambles down the peak and disappears beneath a cloud. As you follow him down, the narrow spindle of rock widens into a mountain, and the sounds of dragon voices and laughter echo from below. You follow the skydancer down the cliff face until he disappears into a wide hole in the rock. You creep down to the edge and peek in.
A massive red head looms out at you from inside the mountain, pale green eyes glinting from beneath a rough canvas hood. The Imperial scowls at you, then without a word he shoulders past and takes off into the storm, a red-breasted hainu and a few crows trailing behind him. You take a step back, wondering if the whole clan would be like him. But then a friendly grey-brown face pops up in front of you, and a speckled spiral coils out to greet you.
"Don't mind Xoclo, he's ALWAYS like that." He speaks so quickly you can hardly keep up. "I just don't GET why he's always so GRUMPY!!! I'm NEVER grumpy, but somehow HE always finds SOMETHING to sulk about." The spiral's face crinkles into what appears to be pure excitement trying to look angry, then he immediately bursts out laughing so hard that you start to wonder whether or not he's having some sort of breakdown.
He gasps for air, wiping a tear from his enormous brown eye. "I think I MIGHT have been getting a bit GRUMPY there, don't you think?" He laughs, hardly able to get the words out. Then his laughter stops as quickly as it came. "I'm THOR, by the way," he says, grabbing your talon and shaking it so hard that it hurt. "And YOU must be the dragon AZURE and I saw when we were on SENTRY DUTY!" He pauses for a heartbeat, then his enormous eyes grow even huger and sparkle with excitement. "You HAVE to meet SHADOWSCALE!!"
He siezes your talon again and yanks you into the cavern. Dragons of all shapes, sizes, and colors flash by as you're dragged along behind Thor. The skydancer from earlier swoops up from the crowd and flaps alongside you for a few moments, then banks away again, laughing. Another skydancer soars by, this time shining in shades of gold and copper, and chases after him in an acrobatic game of aerial tag. Thor sweeps you into a smaller tunnel entrance halfway up the wall and for a few seconds you are shrouded in darkness.
The next thing you know, you are in a new cave, lit through a number of small chinks in the rock. A small oak tree is planted near the doorway. In a feather-lined nest against the wall, a bluefin charger sleeps peacefully. Another, much larger nest sits near the back, and sitting in this nest is an obsidian-scaled guardian, covered head-to-toe with battle scars, with a pair of iron rings in her sky-blue wings. Her voice rumbles like thunger as she speaks. "Greetings, Thor. And greetings to our guest." She dips her great black head to you. "Please, feel free to stay as long as you wish. Help yourself to our food stores, we have plenty to go around." She stands up, and you follow her back to the main cavern. Her voice echoes off the sandstone walls.
"Welcome to our lair!"
