CHRONICLES
Many years ago, amoung the nemorous luminescence of Starwood Strand, a lone egg hatched without a soul to witness the dawn of its life. Cocooned by a carefully constructed wicker nest perched precariously upon a crooked branch, the young fae had just enough room to stretch her tiny limbs for the very first time. When she finally opened her eyes, they grew wide in incomprehensible awe at the ethereal sight that greeted her. Lights, thousands of them, scattered about the canopy she rested in. She hasn't yet seen the stars above, but she may as well count herself amoung them. A handful of those enchanting lights were woven into her nest and, upon closer inspection, she found they smelled as lovely as they looked. These flowers—starblossoms, as she would come to call them—provided her the only companionship she knew through the long night that followed her birth. When the sun broke past the horizon and the starblossoms began to close their glimmering petals, the lonesome dragon felt sadness for the first time. She couldn't help her tears as that comforting light vanished, replaced by the blinding beams of a ball of fire so far away yet, it seemed, so close. She was bathed in the warmth it brought, temporarily distracting her from the loss of her flowers. Rays of sunlight cascaded through the gaps in the canopy that shrouded her. She tried to grasp one as if it were a string that would lead her up into the sky, but quickly found that this light was intangible, unlike that of her flowers. |
Hunger kept her weak, frail body from venturing out of the safety of her nest. Her calls throughout the night had gone unanswered, echoing in the darkness beyond the starblossoms. Though she tried to call out once more, her voice had gone hoarse, failing her in her time of need. In her desperation, she crawled unsteadily to the edge of the nest, assuming she would find more of the wicker that held her up. Alas, she was enveloped by nothing but air as she stepped out, heart fluttering wildly in her small chest. There was no impact. She had fainted for a short time, but when she next opened her eyes, she found trees soaring past her, wind caressing her scales like the touch of a mother she never knew. She was cradled against something—someone—she could not see. When the wind died down and the world stopped moving so quickly around her, she was removed from the firm embrace that had saved her. She looked up to find two wide eyes that glowed a soft pink like the stretches of colour in the sky that preceeded the sunrise. They were so full that she could see her own reflection, a discovery that had her drawing closer to those eyes. She bumped her head against the other when she got too close and she felt more than heard the chuckle that followed. This rosy-eyed dragon would introduce himself as Sceril, a fledgling fae just slightly older than herself. He would bring her to his parents, who lacked a clan of their own, and they would name her Glaide. The two of them were already well into their years and it wasn't long after Glaide learned to use her wings that they passed away. |
As much sorrow as it brought, Glaide and Sceril only held fond memories of them. They both continued living in the cave carved into the curved concave of the Crystalspine Reaches for some time, but eventually they left to form their own clan, one nestled into a valley at the bottom of Focal Point that would grow strong and fierce long after they had passed on. Sceril was personally recruited by the Arcanist long before Glaide had had any thoughts of leaving their clan, but she only came to join him once she was certain that the dragons of the now-dubbed Starbound Clan were going to be fine without her. When the time finally came, she disappeared into the night without a word, sparing only a single glance back to the family she loved so dearly. She knew now that they didn't need her anymore. The truth was that they had been ready for some time, but she couldn't bring herself to part with them. Her longing to return to Sceril's side overcame her, however, and she left for the Arcanist's Observatory to do just that. The mysterious disappearance of the Starbound Clan's matriarch left the dragons of this lair confused and forlorn. In search of a new dragon to guide them through these worrisome times, a noble nocturne named Desdemonia was appointed as the new matriarch. While she may be young, she's determined to honour Glaide by carrying on her legacy. |
