The Venom Vine Dragon Clan
The strange habits of the Venom Vine clan have earned them not only a reputation as unusual dragons, but also as deadly and unpredictable defenders of the Viridian Labyrinth. As a right of passage, hatchlings of the Venom Vine clan nearing their transition into adulthood drink a brew from Spruculous' cauldron known among the clan as The Dragon's Bane. This bubbling brew of shifting, vibrant colours is sour to the taste and must be sipped slowly in gradually increasing amounts for a span of five days. On the sixth day, the hatchlings take their final flask of the brew and are welcomed into the clan as adults and given their new names and roles among the clan.
Some hatchlings who over-enthusiastically consume the Dragon's Bane may become Venom-Touched. These dragons are venerated among the clan and given the titles Venom-Hide, Venom-Wing and Venom-Drake depending on where and how the poisonous brew most affects them. In addition to their titles, they are easily spotted by the toxic patterns now present beneath their skin.
Rivals: The Talonok
Although the Talonok are very rarely seen straying into the Gladeveins, the Venom Vine clan frequently come across these diverse, feathered beastclan creatures while gathering in the Everbloom Gardens. Spruculous and her toxin collectors frequent Talonok territory in search of toxic plants, fish, and insects. The toxin collectors have to take caution when entering the expanding Talonok territories, as their numbers are far greater than that of the clan's dragons. While the Talonoks use speed and sharp weapons, the Venom Vines have been known to retaliate with poison dipped claws and soaked cloths thrown over the small and violent attackers.
The expansion of Talonok territory has caused the loss of some of Spruculous' favoured fishing grounds. Although the clan is at odds with these beasts, they have an ally within the clan who is used to bridge truces at times. Spruculous' close friend and companion, Stormclaw.
