Nardaviel's Clan

The New Moon Enclave's lair lies in the Sunbeam ruins, in a pine forest between the Hewn City and the border with the Tangled Wood. On quiet days, you can hear the murmur of the river that flows through the clan's territory, down into the Sea of a Thousand Currents.

The Enclave serves a number of diplomatic functions for the Lightweaver, forging ties with Shadow and Water clans, as well as others more distant from their home. They also provide intelligence when necessary and train soldiers for the Lightweaver's army. They bring the Lightweaver's radiance with them, illuminating the night so that the world is clear even in the darkness of the new moon.

On a more clandestine level, the Enclave serves as a safehouse for imperial dragons who are concerned about the Lightweaver's hostility and would rather leave the Ruins. Occasionally, one of them will accept a place in the Enclave instead, under Kira's protection. For the most part, though, they just go on their way and remember the clan with gratitude. There's always a use for connections like that.

The clan is organized into four arms: administrative, diplomatic, scholars', and domestic. The domestic arm in turn has a separate branch for warriors. The administrative branch consists of the clan leader, his mate, and the heads of the other four arms and branches. The clan leader holds regular councils of the administrative branch to stay informed and get advice, but in the end, the council's will can't override his own. The diplomatic branch consists of flight representatives, diplomatic coordinators for larger regions of Sornieth, and various other dragons whose work involves relations with other beings. The scholars' arm includes historians, philosophers, artists, scientists, and all other dragons who are drawn to that type of work. The Enclave is still a light clan, after all, and it values learning for its own sake. The domestic arm includes dragons upon whose work the rest of the clan depends, such as gatherers, tailors, merchants, the familiar keeper, and all the clan's warriors and guards.
