CLAN LORE: KALEIDOSCOPE CAVERN

Kaleidoscope Cavern lies near the outskirts of the Shifting Expanse, near the swampy border with the Sea of a Thousand Currents and the Sunbeam Ruins. It's an oddly colorful and bright spot considering the barrenness of its surroundings, but you'd be hard-pressed to find it on accident. The dark swamp and vast canyons surrounding the cave help to naturally conceal it on all sides. Only a small handful of skilled and crafty dragons are usually needed to keep watch and protect the lair from intruders. You'd only find it if you were looking for trouble... or refuge.

The cavern itself is magically connected to a bar that leads out into a "local" marketplace (the actual geographical distance between Kaleidoscope Cavern and the market is about a day's travel), but you can only get to the main cavern if someone in the staff lets you in. This bar is called the Three Mirrors, and is the only safe entrance to those wishing to enter the cavern. Only the owners of the bar know how the magic of the impossible spacial connection to the cavern works, and you need to get on their good side to gain passage to the Cavern without having to brave the treacherous canyons or swamp.

Attached to the bar is an inn where all kinds are welcome to stay for the night, no questions asked, so long as you have the cash and don't cause steal or cause physical harm to other patrons (inside, anyway). All manners of activity take place at Three Mirrors, both legal and less so. But everyone that frequents this place tends to keep quiet about it, as Three Mirrors tends to be a major source of income for both Kaleidoscope Cavern and its regulars.

But at the end of the day, it is just an ordinary bar... to the public. Few who enter Three Mirrors are even aware of Kaleidoscope Cavern's existence, no matter how much underground business dealings take place. And few of those that are aware know that the bar conceals a unique entrance to the cavern itself. And that's on purpose.

Those residing in this cavern are a diverse bunch, but tend to have one thing in common: most are outcasts of some form or another, or just need to hide away for longer than a short stay at the Three Mirrors inn. Other than that, you can find as many different motivations and ideals as there as there are colors in the rainbow. Most of them get along with each other despite this, and manage to foster an atmosphere of liveliness and cheer. The cavern is almost perfectly insulated from the outside world, and every dragon is free to be themselves. Even the frequent lightning storms aren't enough to dampen the spirits of the Kaleidoscope dragons!

Once you've taken shelter in the cavern, you're family, as far as anyone else living there is concerned. And family sticks together.

SIDE NOTE: In terms of relationships between dragons (familial or otherwise), I treat how I breed dragons with each other completely separately from how I treat their relationships in their lore. I bring this up because I know plenty of users on this site like to tie dragon breeding into their lore and take that kind of thing very seriously. That can take an extra level of creativity and dedication which I can appreciate, so good on those folks! I just wanted to make it clear that I DEFINITELY DON'T do that. If you read my dragons' lore and find out I bred one of my lore dragons with his supposed aunt, or two siblings together, or something, rest assured that it's just a coincidence and has no significance toward anything.
