Suggestions Forum Policy
Last Updated: 11/14/15

The Suggestions Forum is a place for players to post and discuss their feedback about how to improve Flight Rising. The development team is always looking for new ideas on how to improve our game and regularly read through the threads posted there for inspiration and community concerns. While we generally do not reply to threads in this forum, we read it several times a week and are very excited to hear your input.

Please read the information and guidelines below prior to posting.

Philosophy

The intent of the Suggestions Forum is for players to have a place to discuss their ideas with one another in a creative and constructive environment. Many of Flight Rising's improvements and content updates have come from threads in this forum, and our aim is to continue that!

Note: Suggestions are implemented based on how they fit within the design philosophy of the game and not by voting, popularity, or lack thereof.

Rules and Guidelines

Please abide by the following rules when posting or responding to suggestions threads. Players that break these rules may be issued a warning, escalating to harsher penalties for repeated violations.

  • Absolutely no mini-modding is permitted. This rule is already present in our overall site Rules & Guidelines, but is very important here. Flight Rising has a volunteer moderator team to carry out enforcement of our site’s rules on the forums.

  • Helpful redirection to threads that already exist is permitted, if done so constructively. Similar or paralleled suggestions are going to happen, and we are fine with players helpfully redirecting others to idea threads that already exist. However, doing this in a negative or harassing manner is not permitted and will result in account penalties.

  • Harassment or mistreatment of players for their thread or ideas is not allowed. This is never okay.

  • Voicing agreement or disagreement with suggestions is allowed, but please do so constructively. Blunt, antagonizing, or negative comments will not be tolerated, and we strongly encourage that if you do not have something constructive to say, do not post in the thread.

  • The Suggestions Forum is a discussion forum, not a petition forum. Replies may not have ONLY the following in them:
    • “Support”
    • “No support”
    • Quoting another post
    • Quoting another post with ONLY “support/no support”

  • A "Suggestions Compilation" sticky thread will be maintained and updated periodically by the Flight Rising staff. Referring players to this thread is permitted on the grounds that it is not used as a tool to harass or demean others. Blunt, antagonizing, or negative comments (example: "read the sticky first" or "i wish people would read before they post") will not be tolerated and will result in account penalties. Be mindful and respectful when referencing this thread.

Disclaimer

Stormlight Workshop, LLC is lucky to have players who are passionate, creative, and are interested in submitting their ideas and feedback for how to make Flight Rising better. In order for there to be clear expectations about these submissions, it is necessary that players agree with and adhere to the below disclaimer. We hope that players understand that this disclaimer was created to highlight and clarify the manner in which submissions may or may not be used. We believe it will help avoid future misunderstandings when new features, options, or content developed internally by the Flight Rising staff might be similar or even identical to that which is submitted by its players.

If a player sends us an unsolicited suggestion, idea, proposal or other material (collectively, the "Submission"), Stormlight Workshop, LLC will consider the Submission to be non-confidential and non-proprietary. Stormlight Workshop, LLC shall have no obligations concerning the Submission, contractual or otherwise (including but not limited to an obligation to keep the Submission confidential), and shall not be liable for any use or disclosure of any Submission. Stormlight Workshop, LLC shall be entitled to unrestricted use of the Submission for any purpose whatsoever, commercial or otherwise, without compensation to the player.

If a player sends us, at our request, a comment or suggestion to improve Flight Rising or add a new category or feature (for example, through our Suggestion Forum, Contact Us ticket system, other discussion forum boards, or otherwise) (collectively, the "Submission"), Stormlight Workshop, LLC will consider the Submission to be non-confidential and non-proprietary.

Moderator Interaction

Please keep in mind that the members of the moderator team are not employees of Stormlight Workshop and thus do not have an active role in the internal time tables or development of the site. They are a team of volunteer players who are graciously giving their free time to help ensure that the rules & guidelines of this and other boards are being followed.

Development Team Interaction

The development team enjoys talking to and interacting with players when they have the chance, but please know that threads in this forum are not the proper avenue for direct communication with us (you are more than welcome to interface with us via our Contact Us page or by asking a question in our Q&A Thread in Flight Rising Discussion). As a rule, we keep our interaction with the threads in the suggestions forum at a minimum. Our reasons for doing this:

  • Responding positively to a thread could create the false notion that the idea is something that we will be implementing. Although we may like an idea, it may not be the best fit for Flight Rising. In some cases, this could lead to players waiting for the suggestion be implemented and word-of-mouth communication could create wider misconceptions, expectations, and halt different ways of approaching the issue. In an effort to combat this feeling, we do not reply either way.

  • Responding negatively to a thread may entirely shut the discussion down. Sometimes, a discussion may evolve over the course of days or weeks or months, and yield some truly awesome ideas deep in its pages. We believe that if we voice that the initial suggestion is not something we are looking for, it may prevent the collaboration necessary for something we do think would be great.
While players are welcome to voice their feedback on this approach, please keep in mind that the forum was opened as an avenue by which the community can provide their ideas, but with the realization that it is not an official to-do list for the development team, nor is it an excuse for players to tell one another their ideas are wrong.

Please remember that, at the end of the day, the Flight Rising forums are intended to be a positive place for players to post and discuss the site. This extends to all boards, but especially the Suggestions Forum because it deals directly with peoples' personal thoughts on the site. Players are going out of their way to submit their ideas, and they should not be chastised for that.It is possible to disagree with someone and still make your voice heard in a productive way, and we will always encourage that type of interaction.

As always, if you do not feel comfortable creating a Suggestions thread, you may contact us directly and privately.
