The Artist
"I appreciate all art, but I have to say that Space provides the most opportunities. The variety of scale, color, and light are impossible to resist."

Neha is an old dragon, with longer antlers than most Imperials see. Some would expect her to have more children, or a better place to lay her head than a wanderer's pack, but she waves this idea off with a slow-moving paw. She has more important children to tend to than dragons.

She is an artist, and one of the best you'll see. It's too bad that 60%of the time she dismisses clients out of paw. "Your colors aren't working. I can't make anything of worth on your hide." They usually aren't happy to hear this, especially after she's spent a week staring at them. She lived on the road for much of her life offering her skill, which is where she met her only mate. Once she made enough treasure, she returned home to Starfall Isles, where she put many more years in practicing, painting the perfect starscape on her own hide with arcane illusions as a masterpiece. Now that she is finished though, she finds herself looking for new challenges. She took up her paints again, herself a walking advertisement, and headed for the Sunbeam Ruins where she met her old mate, hoping for that luck to strike again.

Curiously, it did. The moment she sees the male Imperial her age waiting outside that new cauldron in the market, she imagines his ivory wings colored as ice instead and approaches him with her offer. His young son, who leaves the cauldron tent, surprises her but he doesn't look awful; this Betelgeuse has good color taste at least. Neha accompanies them back to his lair and offers her services to the matriarch Euryale in exchange for lodging, food and a stipend for paints. The mirror accepts and, with a rakish grin, dares her to find an appropriate paint set for herself. For once, Neha feels inclined to consider such a thing as a side project.

She and Betelgeuse are now casual mates. They're not madly in love, but they make it clear they are taken. They're both old enough to know that choosing to remain is more important than the storm of passion, unlike her art, and the companionship of someone equally as old is valuable. He sits expounding on the latest philosophy from his clubs while she touches up his wings with arcane paints that make the ice actually sparkle and sometimes, he'll even debate the purpose of art, just for her. It's enough to make an old lady's heart melt a bit.
