""Come here, little one. Mother will look after you.""

━━━━━━━━━━━━ b i o ━━━━━━━━━━━━

OLD LORE

Lira, daughter of Sheba, was the figurehead of the clan. Now exalted, Sheba was the first dragon who ever visited this den, however now she serves the Glademother, feeding and caring for the exalted Hatchlings.

Lira was born to this den on the 19th of June, with her sister Noot (exalted), however decided to stay when Kafani, the then clan head, grew sick of the misbehaving children and quit. Jewel, the clan 'accountant', took over matters temporarily before Lira grew up and took over.

Lira now resides as clan mother, fostering all the new Hatchlings as well as her own. She has no true partner yet, but has no trouble birthing babies of different breeds. She loves all children and adults equally, and as such, can't bear to see them go. But alas, they must serve the leaders of their new clans, be they dragon or Glademother herself.

Lira is also a renowned sniper at the Auction House, where she goes hunting for exaltlings and gives them a new home.

Lira plays a part in many young dragon's stories, which pleases her. As the mother of all hatchlings that make her way into the clan, she tries her hardest to take them on a decent path to a good life. She's rescued babies from imminent exaltation, gone on hunting parties to search for kidnapped babies, snuck babies out from impending death and sent them to loving homes and guided children otherwise hated in the clan. She feels it is her personal duty to give her children a better life, and as thus all dragons call her mother.

However, she is growing old. After her mother recently passed away, Lira is searching for another dragon who will possess the strength to look after the amount of hatchlings that come through the lair, and keep up with them. She's been keeping an eye on a flighty skydancer called Erica, however Erica has shown incredible mental prowess, and has no interest in looking after hatchlings. Whilst she's a very caring girl who would happily babysit, ancient tomes and illegible scripts are more of her passion, and Lira respects that. Erica is a wonderful assistant, but not right for the job. For now though, she is welcome to stay as the figurehead of the clan, as her capacity for languages makes her an incredibly efficient translator for the leaders of the clan, when they go to converse with other clans.

Lira likes to wear trinkets her children have made for her. The dented bangle she wears on her wrist was given to her by a particular nest of faes, whilst the necklace of flowers was given to her by Celeste, the beautiful imperial dragon. Celeste is a strong girl, who has her hands full looking after the poor child Flossy. Flossy is a dear, but has many problems. Lira still loves her with all her heart, but Flossy responds better to her sisters than to Lira, and Lira respects that.

Lira still is on the hunt for someone to replace her, though she keeps the information private. She is still needed by many, and cannot let down so many children. She will stay as clanmother, even if it kills her.

NEW LORE
Many years pass, and with them come changes.
And as such, Lira herself has changed. She has aged, but not as quickly as her old friends and family. Years spent in an almost cryogenic state meant her body was put on pause. She does not mind.

Lira now chooses to decorate herself like her clanmates, in an elaborate design of roses and thorns. It’s a delicate dance, to be surrounded by that which brings pain and delight. Sleeping often escapes her. She does not mind.

Lira has had children in Arcane lands, with arcane dragons. It was an honour to be recognised by the Arcanist, and all her children have since joined him. She still carries parts of the Arcane with her, including a guardian who deeply cares for her. Her Arcane touch is out of place in her quaint, backwards family, but she does not mind.

Often, she’ll join Celeste on her nightly search and discuss the old times with her. Other imperials sometimes join her, and she listens to their new stories. Some of these imperials do not belong near the Tree and will only join the pair when the night is at it’s quietest. Lira does not mind.
The new dragons bring a balance that the Tribe was lacking.

━━━━━━━━━━━━ l o r e ━━━━━━━━━━━

The journey was long, and difficult. It had been years since Lira had been contacted by a member of her old clan, and with it had brought a desire to go. Had the clan changed? She was honestly surprised they were still around. In fact, they had grown substantially, becoming one of the most populous clans in the area. According to the letter, money now flowed like water, and dragons were travelling days to visit their clan. Pubs and taverns had popped up, and the road to the Tribe was a permanent track through the thick jungle.
“Come back home”, the letter had read.

“We miss you.”

The letter now was stashed in a bag, somewhere in the cart. Magical orbs swung about and hung around the cart as it rolled, bothering the beasts pulling it. Her many years in the Starfall Isles had limited her to outside communication, especially since her access was cut off by the Scarred Wasteland. Travelling through it now was still a dangerous task, and the guards assigned to her goods were suitably tense. After the wasteland was Dragonhome, a much safer land to traverse than the Tangled Wood.
Why hadn’t the clan moved since then? When she had left, the talk of the time was to move to the Sunbeam Ruins, a much safer place than the Wilds, or so she thought. Arcanist bless it, even travelling to Dragonhome would have cut her journey in half!

The beasts yanked at her reins, startling her out of her dreams. It was a few days later, and they were solidly in Dragonhome. Some of the guards had remained in the Wasteland, relieving pressure on her rations. Even still, the lack of moisture in the air made it tough for the beasts. If they could talk, she knew they’d be complaining about the cart’s wheels sticking in the sand. She felt sympathetic for the poor animals, but knew there was nothing to be done, save to keep moving.

It was a few more days until they were greeted by the wide river that cut off the Wilds from most of Sornieth. A well-dressed blue dragon was waiting by a ferry, and Lira was startled to see the crest on his lapel. A blue dragon under the Tribe?

Things had changed.
She showed the skydancer her letter of access, and he allowed her to board. She had been warned about his tricks, so she kept her purse tight. It wasn’t until she started to recognise the works of Eranicus that she began to relax. It may have been a trick though, as her purse did feel much lighter and anticipated at the end of that ferry ride.

Despite seeing Eranicus’ work, it was still a whole day’s ride before the jungle started thinning. Roadside peddlers and taverns thronged the paths, and dragons flooded the roads. It was a vast difference from the days of silence she had endured. Chatty hatchlings sat on the cart’s seat with her and told her exaggerated stories of ancient monsters in the jungle and undead dragons in the Swamp.

When asked about the marketplace, their eyes would light up as they spoke of marvels and wonders. Lights that floated about quite like her own orbs, yet these ones changed colours! Dragons that could fly upside down, and snatch roasted peanuts and almonds out of the air, as well as treats that could make the world funny colours. When the faint trickles of music began to filter through the trees, the hatchlings jumped off the cart and ran up ahead. Around a corner was a massive fig, held up by similarly huge trees. The entire thing made a roof so large parts blocked out the afternoon sun. Multiple stories of this tree were carved into the trunks, and dragons milled about every story. The size of it all took her breath away – imperials were roosting on the branches like faes, and the two guardians posted at the front of the area were dwarfed by the massive banners. The sigil matched the ferryman’s crest, as well as multiple dragons she passed on the way.

She was home.
A giant blue ridgeback greeted her first, calling out to her over a crowd of what appeared to be adoring fans. She gestured towards a black wildclaw, lavishly decorated in gold. The crowds that were surrounding the ridgeback parted for the wildclaw, who limped over. The years had darkened her considerably, and her armour was more decorative than practical, but this was her old Queen.
Pyre.
Her presence was powerful, and still parted crowds after all these years. Descending from the cart, Lira clasped hands with the old wildclaw, watching as another jumped into her seat. Ocelot, a young spiral, Pyre had introduced. The cart was quickly swallowed up by the crowds as Pyre lead her away. She was assured her bags would be in her rooms by the time they themselves had arrived. Lira was quickly assaulted by scents, faces, and names. New faces that belonged to old people, children that ran between legs of parents that were previously declared barren. Grim-faced guards stared onwards, unresponsive to Lira’s presence.
New homes still were being built, with odd attachments. According to Pyre, new arrivals deemed the current homes too small, and demanded better. When Lira asked when they held so much power, Pyre’s face grew haunted. Silently, she signed the word ‘fire’. Lira didn’t ask further.

It was days later, and she was finally settled. Her guardian zoomed around her little abode, decorating it further with little streaks of purple. She had compiled a list of names and was trying to commit the faces to memory. A knock on the door and yet another blue skydancer met her. Jake, the advisor, carrying a tray of tea.

“May I enter?”

Lira wrapped her gown closer around her and stepped away from the door. He entered silently, placing the tray down next to her writings. Siting down on one of her cushions, he sighed with relief. Lira saw the beginnings of a bruise on his neck but chose to leave it.
Sitting down, she queried, “What entails a visit from Modremoth’s advisor but not Modremoth himself?”

Jake reached for the teapot. “Has he still not visited yet?”
“Not since I left this place years ago.”

“Maybe he’s changed too, and is scared to show it?”
Lira sighed and pulled out the letter. Jake stiffened when he saw it. “Jake. Modremoth wrote these years ago, and only chose to send it now.” She shook the second note, the one with the letter to the ferryman.

“This one was written only a few weeks ago. Handwriting changes, even the paper quality has changed. But his writing is the same. Why did you send these now, why did he ask you to write these letters? This is your handwriting Jake.”
Jake set down his cup as Lira talked. He took a few seconds to chew over his words before speaking.

“Lira, the Tribe needs you. Loren needs you. His memories have been stolen by a witch, who is bleeding him dry. You’re one of the few dragons left who remember from before she came. Save him.”

Celeste and Lira are old friends. When Lira came back to a changed clan, even her imperial friend was different. But change is for the better. And despite all this, the two still recognised each other, and laughter was shared just as readily.

The original mother. When Lira had left, Kafani was an old fae with green and purple wings. Now she was an ancient spiral, with muted colours and wings shrivelled from disuse. Voltair seemeed younger, but Kafani had truly accepted her age. She still commanded respect as an elder, and even the young leaders deferred to her.

Loren.... had not changed. The burly guard was born just a week before her, though she was still credited as being the first child. He deferred to her in that aspect too. The dragon seems foggy, however, and robotic. While his appearance may have changed, gone was the enthusiastic, sweet and gentle man. Now he was a harsh, unrelenting presence among the hatchlings. Maybe with time, so too he could change.
